live results from the Men's meet.

I know alot of stuff was discussed on the women's topic, but here goes.

Eric Sehn will be the biggest part of this meet for the Ags, diving all three days. Israel Duran, the lone swimmer, should place very well in his events (100 Fly-Friday, 200 Fly-Saturday).

overall, first swim of the morning, NCAA record from Auburn, Cesar Cielo (Auburn) leads off with 18.89, American record from Ben Wildman-Tobriner (19.03 lead) of Stanford. No Aggies until Eric dives, but still some super fast swimming goin on here

Eric was fifth in the 1m springboard. His 14 points have the Aggies in 18th place in the team standings.

He never really hit a big dive. All his scores were between 57 and 61 points, but he still finished fifth. Pretty amazing.

I'm not sure how Auburn does it. Four of the eight in the 50 final were from Auburn, including Mr. 18.69 Cesar Cielo.

Do you guys think Duran can drop again at NCAAs? Wasn't he tapered for Big12s? If so, a double taper isn't easy to do. Our girls obviously had nothing left for NCAAs. I know -different coaching staff.

Well this morning in the 100 fly Duran dropped 2 tenths, so at least hes on. I do think he can drop again. He is a completely different swimmer than our girls, both competing and training. If you listen to the press release from Holmes before the meet, he talks about how the more butterfly you throw at him, the better he seems to do. I dont think the "double taper" factor will affect Duran, mostly because mentally I doubt he is worried about it, he just wants to swim fast. I think he can be faster, simply because the competition will be faster, and he will race them and wont want to get beat.

I think Duran will be ready to swim fast today. I'd be disappointed if he didn't swim his fastest time of the year and advance to the A final. I don't know about this double-taper stuff. I just know that he is not intimidated by anything and he looks ready to go. Check back in three hours.

You guys are being WAY too harsh on the women's team -- they set five school records at the NCAA meet including a relay; among those who were faster: Nebera, 200 fly; Heiss in everything; Wilkinson in her freestyles; Aljand in the 50...should I keep going?

I didnt mean to take anything away from the girls at all. Sorry if it came off like that. They had a magnificent season, and deserve all the credit in the world for all the heart and work they put into this season. they really did "make history" this year, and will continue to build on it.

Back to the men, Sehn got 4th last night, highest national finish of his career. He had 5 great dives, but he messed up his second dive and it cost him the win. 10mtr is up today, which is his best board. Cant wait to see that, and Duran. I think thats right that he doesnt get intimidated, its gonna be exciting

You heard it here first: No way Sehn finishes worse than second (barring a complete meltdown)

3rd for Sehn. messed up his 2nd dive. even a DECENT dive (60pts) would have won it for him. bummer. just waitin to see how the final team scores shake out. 3rd 4th and 5th finishes for Sehn still amazing.

that asu guy really dove well to sneak in there...based on prelims I thought it would be a two-horse race...Sehn was 2 dives away from being a two-time national champion

Aggies (Eric Sehn) finish 19th in the team standings

The REALLY big time swimming programs like Auburn know how to swim big when it counts. They have superb talent and can swim through their conference championships. Auburn also has divers. Cielo's swims are an example of absolutely perfect training and performance in a big meet. His two US Open records in the 50 and 100 were stunning. He swam 5 sub-19 50s in the NCAA meet!

We're not there yet. Duran swam his guts out at the Big12s and couldn't swim faster at NCAAs. Not his fault. Those of you who are not super-knowledgeable (yet!) about swimming may not realize how difficult it is for swimmers to swim best times in two swim meets three weeks apart. But the evidence is that our girls probably peaked at the Big12s, not NCAAs. Yes we had several good times at the NCAAs but we had more "off" swims than good swims. I think the 800 free relay was most telling - it is reasonable for fully rested swimmers to drop ~1-2 secs in a 200 free - so our relay could have dropped 4+ secs or more. But we added 2 secs instead.

I bet privately Bultman is disappointed in the way his team finished at NCAAs. He knows next year he can do better. I hope we have divers coming in. I'm still thrilled with our women's team season. First Big12 championship ever. Crushed Texas in SWIMMING. Highest ever NCAA finish. And we lose few seniors.

The men are young and we should see more individuals AND a relay or two get to NCAAs next year.

Very well said. Both programs are going in the right direction, but have different needs. 2009 NCAA's in CS could prove to be a huge meet for Aggie swimming.

If the girl's "peaked" at the conference meet, then so be it. Beating Texas and winning the Big 12 for the first time ever (by one point) was much more important to the team than improving a couple of places in the NCAA's. It's about a natural transgression, walk before you run. That Big 12 title is HUGE for the program.
