Well since it has snowed for almost two days at my house, I will not be using it this weekend.

But........ Nobody has one to tell me what they think of them?

Had a Sky Caddy for a year and used it a lot. Two problems emerged, (1) my home course changed a couple of the holes, and (2) I had to bring the Sky Caddie home with me everytime to recharge the battery (rather than leave it in my locker).

So when my subscription was up I bought a range finder ($160). Now I can leave it in my bag until the batteries rundown and I can use it on the new holes that we have.

Also, I had 5 course in my Sky Caddy and had to pay a subscription each year ($20???); now I can use the range finder on any course I step on with no annual fee.

Hit 'em straight

Also, using the range finder on the practice range is easier. I never did figure out how to put the info into my Sky Caddie.

Thanks.

My wife first bought me the SG3 works on AA's, but we returned it for the sg4. I travel a lot and play golf. I play a lot in California, Oregon and Texas (live in Colorado).

So the home course thing does not effect me much, but that is a really good point, did not think about.

Played a course this weekend that did not have GPS in the carts and did not have distances on the sprinkler heads, only had black and white sticks at the 150 markers.

SkyCaddie worked like a charm

Depends on updates the course gives to skycaddie

But most GPS systems (Carts Included) give you to center of the green and then you need to make adjustments depending on if the hole is front, middle or back.

It does give you front middle and back. It also gives you distances over water, sand or other hazards. The SG4 also measures the distance you hit the ball.

I keep stats on my game, driver hit, hit in fairway, greens in regulation, putts, driving distance, etc. And the SG4 helps me here.

While I hire caddies when I head to Bandon Dunes and I will have Caddies this some up in Kohler when we visit Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run, normally people do not have caddies and completely unneeded when you play locally on most coarses. Most do not even offer caddies.

Does the Sky Caddie give distance to the hole or just front, center and back?

The GPS I've played give distance to the hole. I've noticed the Flag Stick is usually thicker and I figured it contained a transmitter.

Sherrill Park gets the 4 star rating from Sky Caddie but I don't see anything on the flag or in the cup that could be a transmitter so I figure you'd get only front, center and back.

Even if there was a transmitter in the flagstick or in the hole, a hand-held system would not detect it. That would only work for the GPS system in the carts, that were working on the same system.

Usually GPS systems work off programmed coordinates, not off transmitters.

Rocks,

Interesting information. How do they update for pins? I assume when a course is mapped, they give pin locations for each hole (like the pin sheet you get at a nice course). Then each morning they log into some software and tell it pin location # 1 (or whatever). Also, I guess they could have as part of the data for a course predefined locations for the different days (i.e. today is Monday so it's pin location #1).
