Someone explain to me why DLH abandoned the left jab in the 8th round. It was one of the few things that had an effect on PBF. He had the exciting flurries against Mayweather when he could get him on the ropes. It excited the fans, and looked good on tv. Too bad nothing ever really connected. Mayweather fought a great technical fight. He connected his punches on a good percentage. But very few had the power to do much damage.

I am an Oscar fan. Oscar is all about business, his companies are extremely successful. My hat is off to him and what he has accomplished in the business of boxing and out.

I can appreciate the talent of Mayweather; and I believe that he is a pretty decent guy in private. His bravado and mouth are just part of the show.

But at some point you have to wonder if reality tv has met boxing; with the actual match being the series finale.

But the good news is, DLH left the jab in the 8th and we WILL have a re-match. Both camps are assured of a second season for their individual reality shows. HBO has assurance of a another year for theirs.

And everyone goes to the bank extremely happy.

That will be the last PPV fight that I will purchase. It was entertaining. But not nearly as much as the real fight between Bautista-Medina earlier in the evening.

I am afraid that my Grandfather's sport has finally lost all credibility in my eyes.

sat next to a guy that was the #9 heavyweight in the late 70's. he thought it was fixed for the same reason.

it seems that golden boy productions produces a conflict of interest, imo.

8th round? Hell I thought Oscar abandoned the jab pretty much the entire fight. He's always at his best when he's using his jab and he left the damn thing at home last night.

Greenburg credited the success of the network's "24/7" reality show that ran in a coveted Sunday night slot behind the "Sopranos" and "Entourage" for three weeks leading up to the fight with helping sell both the public and the media on its worth.

quote:
"The series was not only well received by the American public, who were suddenly attracted in a very human way to these two fighters, but it allowed the media to cover the fight in more depth," Greenburg said. "They were able to dive deeper into the backgrounds of both fighters."

The reality show concept never had been done among top fighters in boxing, but a similar series on the Spike network was credited with making Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed-martial arts fighters popular.

quote:
You can't generate this kind of revenue and think the two fighters wouldn't want to do it again," Greenburg said. "I haven't heard from Oscar, so I don't know. You never know in boxing."

Say good bye to Boxing and hello to reality tv / wrestling plots / boxing. It is just worth too much money not to have it sold to us in that fashion. And in order to keep it interesting, players in the series will stop using their successful punches in the 8th just like Oscar did. But it will sell because the story is so entertaining.

ehhh forget about boxing, lets graduate to UFC, and then eventually over time we'll work our way back into the days of the Gladiators, not American Gladiators, but Maximus and they can have people saying cool quotes like:

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

now that will sell.
