The Stars have been conspicuously quiet in NHL free agency. The let Sydor and Nagy go, apparently will also let Barnaby, Lindros and Klemm leave. Meanwhile the high profile FA's go quickly off the table...Briere, Drury, Kariya, etc. and the biggest move for the Stars is extending Zubov for one more year.

Is this a result of Hicks cutting costs or poor GM in Doug Armstrong. I suspec they will pay for this approach, esp after a quick playoff exit this year.

But hey, we signed Todd Fedoruk it looks like. At least he will make up the number of penalties that left with those players...

They better do something soon or this season is not going to be very fun I dont think.

They're in clean-out mode. DA even said in June that the Stars would not be active players in the free agent market this year.

Tip & the rest of the coaching staff are going into the last years of their contracts, and it's pretty obvious by what is going on that their services will not be retained. A mini rebuilding period may be starting.

I sure hope they aren't planning on much of a rebuilding project...it's not like we are the most youthful team in the league on the high end of our roster.

The recent letter that Jim Lites sent out to season ticket holders is somewhat encouraging to me anyways, maybe they are doing the right thing by holding off and trying to get a better value through trades, someone will most definitely be looking to dump some salary later in the season. Some of the deals that the high profile FAs have been getting are outrageous!

They did make a couple moves today but nothing to striking.

Resigned Ribeiro to a one year deal and Lundqvist to a two year contract.

You don't have to look far to find the problem with both the Stars and the Rangers - Tom Hicks. I will become a fan of both again once he leaves and we get new ownership.

Agree, but I am insulted by Lites' letter. He totally failed to mention that they just let Nagy go, he was a "gaol scorer" when the Stars traded for him. Lites expects us to buy the crap he is selling. We have some young talent, but they are not young "stars". And the team is dependent on Zubov, Modano, Lehtinen, Norstrom and Boucher, all older players.

I can understand the desire not to "overpay" bu the market sets the price, not Tom Hicks.

Yes the market does set the price, not Tom Hicks. Given the Stars current cap situation though, it just wasn't prudent for us to go out and get one of the higher profile FAs on the market. Granted, I am not defending how we got in this situation in the first place, but for right now I think the Stars are doing the right thing.

I do wish we would have resigned Nagy though, you aren't going to find someone as skilled as him for the 3.75 mil he signed for in LA, unless its in a trade. I agree that Lites not even mentioning him in his letter was somewhat frustrating.
