wow. this kid is obviously rough around the edges, but could really be something as far as americans are concerned in the future. can't wait for the us open....
a combination of him playing over his head and davydenko continuing his lackluster summer made this match closer than it should have been. fun to watch though.
it will be interesting to see if the lefty/lefty matchup will take away guccione's advantage on the serve. young will be a crowd favorite, but i doubt there will be much atmosphere to push him since they will probably play during the day. a short match favors guccione, a long match and young has a chance.
querrey is way ahead of young in terms of pro potential at this point...the usta really screwed up with young by throwing him into ATP events at such a young age the last 3 years, he was not phsically ready and got beat up by the bigger guys where he lost every ATP match he played until this week...he shouldve been developing his game and gaining confidence on the future and challenger circuit learning how to win instead of thrown into the fray when he wasnt ready and killing his confidence...this year the atp changed the rule and does not give points for first round wild cards (the donald young rule) since he ranked in the top 300 without winning a match...so he had to go down to futures and work his way up, where he has done well and now is ready to move up to the ATP tournaments
I'm not exactly sold on him yet either. He has been hearlded as having the hands of john mcenroe but he seems not to have had too much success yet. He is still young though. We'll see how he does.
I watched his first round - US Open match and the commentators couldn't stop mentioning about how he was a diamond in the rough. Looks like he's got some skills, but, it's a long way to the top.
