What's the current status?

According to Gametracker, the Ags won game 3 30-24. There were a couple of scoring mistakes, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

We just won game 3 30-24 according to GameTracker. A sweep of the bears, seemed to be pretty easy too, good win.

Ags won 3rd game 30-24. Jillian Phillips led the team in kills. Darla Donaldson played all three games. Stanton just played in one game.

Awesomeness. Some friends and I are thinking of meeting the team when they get back (their idea, I just feel like procrastinating that paper more).

If your "best player" is hitting in the negative, when do you consider taking them out. It seems Corbelli has no problem pulling our team leader in kills. 35 attempts, 4 kills, 5 errors, leave her in...that seems like the best decision; but, take Sarah out when she is making smart plays and attacking every ball. Where was Jenny during this game? i hope Bill can "cut the mustard" this team deserves better. We have the Gatorade Player of the State and we are still in the "bottom of the big 12 cellar."

I seem to have missed something somewhere. Did Corbelli pull something tonight (I couldn't get Gametracker to work thus my questions)?

wait republic_45.....are you trying to tell us you dont appreciate the Mary Batis set over the net tactic when she could obviously hit it like Slammerman does everytime? Thats just unreal...(dripping with sarcasm)

0809, that is exactly what i'm talking about. Slammerman hits anything, yet sometimes Corbelli takes the slam out if she makes 2 or 3 mistakes in a row, yet her "must have" player can stay on after making 5-9 mistakes...

i think we have the talent, we just need a coach.

Rupublic 45 and the rest of you who appear to bust on Batis or anyother hitter - (compounded by the fact you do it with your shallow adolescent minds and with your sarcastic vernacular which unfortunately epitomizes your immature and unhappy life)

Any intelligent person with a minutia of knowledge about volleyball and who wishes to engage in any civil discussion about the basics of the game knows the game is built on, among other things, a simple concept of "pass, set and kill". The Kill ain't gonna happen without the set; and the set ain't gonna happen without the pass.

Ask Sarah or any outside if she values the person who repeatedly fills the "serve receive" role in the back row; the same person who makes the pass to the setter so the OH has a chance at a Kill. Go ahead, ask her; and I bet she says the passer is key.

Conversley, watch what happens when Batis or any other OH is in the front row and the Pass doesn't get to the setter- - no set = no kill.



Blame the OH? Only an idiot would. Bust on your own classmates and fellow Ags. Only an idiot would.

GC: I agree with your post. I think Batis has done a great job and is a great player. Just wanted to say that the people complaining about this are not KIDS in fact, we kids are the students still attending the games and being supportive of our team. I think most of the people on here complaining are former students, just from what i gather...

In the last 3 matches Batis has hit poorly (BU, ISU, NU) the majority of her errors have come in the first game - so she's been battling to get out of the negative from the beginning.

Also, Batis has better stats than Ammerman in just about everything other than Kills and Hitting %. Maybe Ammerman gets pulled for defensive reasons rather than for offensive mistakes. (I'm really just playing devil's advocate, as the box scores don't indicate substitutions, so I don't have that information.)

One other thing you may notice is how the opponents line up in rotation against the ags. It's inevitably a chess match between the coaches at the start in setting their players in position on the floor. Does a coach start his/her strongest along the Front or in the Back? Do you want strong vs strong at the Net or not?

It's not always best vs best at the Net.

Last night, for example, Baylor's best Blocker (Breyfogle) Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice this year, was matched up across the front vs. Mary B; and when Breyfogle was out (since she doesn't play back row) Sarah got some sweet swings against the lesser blockers of BU; and absolutely made the best of it - well done,

Is that any one player's fault? No, of course not. Just like its not one players reward. IT IS A TEAM game.

I want to believe that someone like republic 45 and the other constant complainers are more sophisticated than to conclude one player is "good" or another is "bad" because of one isolated statistic in ignorance of the whole; or simply based upon how hard they smack the ball, at times.

Tell me you guys understand a little bit more about the game than "slamming" and hitting percentage.

Did you realize, for example, when Darla D went in last night for Kelly S., Kelly S was hitting like 400+? Under your miopic analysis, the move should not have been made. Has anyone congratulated the Coach on a nice strategic move? Nope. Darla brought something else to the match - and the TEAM performed and won


go look up the Big 12 stats. We are not a pinnacle-player TEAM. we are a TEAM of very good players across all rotations. Last night, when Breyfogle went out, Baylor melted. When she was in, they rallied. We played steady in all rotations - - anybody given Corbelli kudos for that? Nope.

You could probably count the number of people on here like that on one hand. Two at most.

i'm a lifelong fan of the sport. i've been attending a&m matches almost since the beginning of the corbelli era. i still try to get into bcs for at least one match each season. i watch as many matches as possible online or obtain game tapes later from the many nice people who work in college\club volleyball or are fans of the game. 3 summers ago i saw a big dropoff in competitiveness looming, and i started posting on texags, pointing out strengths and specific areas we could improve. i posted numbers and broke down games analyzing strings of plays, showing where our errors came and lost the momentum. i talked up the talent that i saw coming through clubs. in her freshman year i raved that 'kelsey bryant is the future of aggie volleyball,' and now in her junior year there is no doubt. look at her numbers so far this season.

i welcome anyone who doubts my knowledge of the game to read my entire posting history in the Other Sports forum.

as a fan i gladly set aside an afternoon to look at our remaining schedule. i wrote a description of each of our remaining 11 matches. i included a prediction of wins losses and close matches.
results?

of my 4 predicted tossups, 2 were 5 game losses, 1 was a 4 game loss, 1 was a sweep win

of my 3 predicted losses we were swept in all

of my 4 predicted wins we won 2 lost 2, so if anything i overestimated our strength. even i didn't think we would be swept by tech.

the next week i explained why it was a safe bet we'd miss the post season. we did.

does it build any credibility here. not really.

doesn't matter if i 'post intelligently' or 'engage in educated and responsible dialogue.' some people still insisted on trying to shout me down. i won't go into the subject of real names of people who visit here. college sports is a small town with a big mouth. people need some privacy. but don't assume there aren't people here who know more than they say. my words stand for themselves.

for 07' i'm over texags Other Sports. i have my plan set to travel in for one match this year, but you won't see me posting about it here. i'm done with people putting my loyalties on trial every time i say something they find hard to hear; they chalk it up to my anger or perceived 2% status. never to their own fear of facing the reality. the big 12 is one of three big time conferences for this sport. you can't just maintain. a bigger dog will come and take your bowl while you nap.

What say ye about this year's schedule and remaining Ws or Ls? What is your projection? Tonight may tell a lot about whether we are upper tier or middle tier.
