I was 6'-0" for most of my life. But at 62, last time I went to the doctor, they measured me at 5'-10.5" (which I round to t-11").

Is this still considered "tall". I frankly don't think so, which is why do many guys lie about being 6'-0". But I won't lie since I'm a numbers based guy.

Would especially be interested in the ladies opinions . My wife is 5'-4", so she still thinks I'm tall.

Per a quick internet search, the average male height in the United States is 69" (nice), with a standard deviation of 3". I think it's reasonable to say that anything more than one standard deviation above the average could be considered tall. In other words, 6'1" is tall.

I would have said 6'2" and up, but I can't argue with that logic. Plus it makes me "tall"

6'4" here. I kind of consider that the beginning of "tall" but in every picture I'm a head above others.

Perception though is good. I met my daughter's first serious boyfriend a couple months ago. I was wearing my boots so that added a couple and when we walked up to each other the street had a slope and I was on the upper side. Her boyfriend is 6'2" and plays college sports. The angle was perfect - she told me afterward that he said "you told me your dad was 6'4" but he looked 6'8" at minimum" - only thing better would have been if I had my shotgun out!

She's a down to earth girl. Happy in jeans and a sweatshirt. Likes a simple grilled steak as her favorite meal.

But, yes, she eats in Michelin starred restaurants and hasn't sat in coach very often (but when she does, she's never whined or complained)

You know the stigma height was created by women and their list of requirements to date them. They all want at least 6'2" and taller. But they are 5' to 5'7". I have had friends that were "short" and no one messed with them, and if they did it was once. Some of my NCO's were hardcore dudes that got respect from officers, no messing around with them. And I have had friends that were muscular and taller than me with limp wristed dead fish handshakes. So a man is a man regardless of height, short kings in reality rule.

S'ok. Being a Short King has its perks too. I mean, ***** I'd be dead if I were taller than my own 5'6". And not going to lie. Not having to worry about personal space as much as someone 6+ has been more of a boon than not I think so far in life.

I mean, that's really limiting. I was reading something about the Post Office's fugly new vehicles, and the reason it's so weird looking that that a 95th percentile male - 6'2" - had to be able to stand up inside in the back, while a 5th percentile female - which was 4'11" or 5" - had to be able to see over the hood.

So if they won't date anyone shorter than 6'2", that's only 5% of the male population.

That the current average is 5'9" is interesting, because I remember back in the 1990s, it was 5'10". I remember a columnist for the local paper writing a column about how he was sad when it went up from 5'9" to 5'10", because he was 5'10" and liked being 'above average' and now he was merely average.

If you break it down by ethnicity, it looks like the reason for the drop is the increasing percentage of Latinos in the population - the median Latino male is only a bit over 5'6".

From what I have read, the average height of a man is growing. I see it all over the world. I wonder what the average height will be in 500 years. 7 feet?

I'm 5'9 and I've never really had a problem with being of average height. I do get made fun of in my family though as my dad is 6'3 and both of my brothers are 6'2. Even my wife is taller than me at 5'10. Her dad is 6'2 and her brothers are 6'2 and 6'4. I'm always the shortest male in every family photo.
