Here for an overnight work trip and am amazed every time I visit how scenic the surrounding area of Seattle is

Really wish I had a home in one of the surrounding towns. Maybe one day.
It's too bad Texas can't have nice scenery like this

Cool story I know

By "area" do you mean "suburbs"? Because we definitely have those in Texas. I've only ever been to the city.

When the truth comes out, do not ask me how I knew.
Ask yourself why you did not.

I have family that lives in Portland. The people are terrible but the PacNW is beautiful country. Columbia River Gorge is one of the most beautiful places I've visited.

I enjoyed being stationed up there. Absolutely beautiful area. Being back in 2007-2011 the people didn't seem to be full on modern day weirdo yet either.

I'm with you. It truly is one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Really love visiting, I don't think I could live there. Almost everyone I know from there has relocated in the past 10 years or so because they say raising kids there is a nightmare. Might be a good place to retire?

I was there 2011-2014 and the people were just starting to get weird. You could still walk around downtown though without seeing homeless tents everywhere.

What the OP doesn't know is that this is the end of the sun in Seattle. The next 9 months will be overcast with drizzling rain. I don't miss that a bit!

Agreed, seems a better place to retire for sure. I'd want to be out of the city, Monroe, Auburn, north of the city… just not the city

To the others in the thread, yes I know far left country blah blah, I laughed because the first men's bathroom I walked into at the airport had free tampons and sanitary pads. Hmm…

Regardless, it's an awesome area. It's just a shame how it's much weirder than it used to, or needs to be

All his posts one day were completely wiped off TexAgs. One of the stranger drop offs…

I can't remember exactly why he was perma banned but it was on the politics board. He would get riled up over there.

Get away from the SW coast and it's a LOT different. My family lives in northern WA and it is deep red country.

there's one thing the carzy libs got right and that was picking some of the most beautiful place in the us to live. West coast states really just about have it all. Forests, oceans, mountains, deserts, valleys/rivers, weather,

Damn near every state is deep red country once you leave the big cities. Seattle is not SW coast though.. it's north. You must mean northeastern for the red counties? Columbia river valley/lake chelan. The desert part of washington

Even commiefornia is mostly red, geographically speaking

May be an example of the "good times create weak men" part of the equation. A couple generations in raised in outdoor paradise and booming economy and you get these dbags.

My daughter lives in Portland. The people were nice to us? Homeless people are worse in Houston, surprisingly.

Wife and I took a road trip from San Fran, thru Northern Cali (Focus on Redwoods), then thru Oregon and into Seattle. As others have said, beautiful part of the country. People in the smaller towns seemed cool but cities were…."special".

Always sticks out to me when we went to get coffee at a nice coffee shop in Portland we asked the barista (as a local) if he had any recommendations or things to do. Dude was probably half baked out of his mind already but he just shrugged his shoulders and said not anything. Maybe smoke weed. Was rather big turnoff.

He's referring to the SW coast of Washington State

ETA: huh, I always thought Seattle was farther south than it actually is on the map. Interesting

I was just in Oregon last week (North Umpqua, Bend, and Yachats/Florence areas). Beautiful places and the people seemed pretty normal and friendly. The only places that seemed kind of sketchy with homeless were Eugene and Portland, but we didn't linger long in either place.

Stayed in Kirkland for a week last year. Man, I could live there. Some of the best food I've had and the lake views were awesome.

We went to a winery that was supposed to have live music. We asked the hostess what time it started and she said "5:30.. but I don't know if he'll play today because it's so hot out." It was 82 degrees. 82.

Yeah, we hit the low 80s in Bend the other day and they apologized to us for it being so hot, if otherwise beautiful weather.

That's interesting. My experience being in those counties in the upper NW of Washington is definitely not of them being blue counties. My guess for Whatcom County is that Bellingham's density is what skews it blue. Bellingham is a liberal enclave. Everything around it is really conservative. Ferndale, Custer, Blaine, Linden have tons of conservatives.

Lived in Mill Creek from 2000-2002. Bought house for around $450k and sold for around $475k.

Homes in that neighborhood now are $1.2 MM. I shoulda stayed. It is incredibly beautiful up there.

Here it is - someone after us did a LOT of changes.

I moved to Eugene in 2020 and didn't notice the weird people for a while because of all the covid crap going on. After about a year I got a better view of the weirdness, but as others have said if you get outside of Eugene and Portland it's more normal people and no homeless or weirdos. If you look at the political map, the state is mostly read aside from the areas around, Portland, Eugene, and Salem but that's where most of the people are and they vote blue.

I have since moved back to TX and was back up in Eugene doing the final cleanout of our house this weekend. It's only been a few months in TX but it was enough to seem normal and going back up to Eugene for a weekend and seeing the mask-wearing weirdos, homeless people and general idiots was noticeable. Antifa looking people were protesting ICE outside of the Federal building where I used to work, but the funny part is that there are no ICE offices/personnel in that building.

I've never been to the Pacific Northwest, but I'd like to go, mostly for the scenery. But also, I get a kick out of weird people. I'd like to go somewhere in America where I get a little culture shocked. I'm not gonna get involved with it, I just want some good stories to tell at Thanksgiving.
