I'm sure plenty of yall have one by now. We have an older one and I think it's on the fritz. Anyhow, which one would yall recommend? Or maybe not recommend? It seems like the GE Opal 2.0 is a popular one. Nice price tag as well

I paid $47 for mine through TEMO but its hardly stunning. I like the $200 Costco model.

Our refrigerator ice maker broke after about 3 years.

We have a Luma, it's pretty good, but not the best. Overall, I like it though.

We had a GE Profile for about 2 yrs….started making a noise and was never the same….had to clean it every 30 days - became more of a hassle than anything else.
Just go buy ice at 7-11

I was on a TDY recently and the small chow hall had one. They were used heavily and broke often. When they worked it was great to have.

Pretty simple. If you use ice regularly buy one. A good one.

We have that Frigidaire from Costco. Makes good ice and pretty quickly, but it's loud as hell. I hate the thing, but my wife loves it

I'm one of those ice snobs that buy clear ice by the bag weekly. Can't stand homemade ice that isn't clear.

This was the third proposed option for people who want clear ice. I saw it and thought, "who cares?" but apparently people do!

Had the GE opal, I cleaned, descaled, and maintained it regularly, about every 4 weeks. It lasted less than 2 years and then it locked up and will go into a perpetual cycle of defrost and then freeze up again, no way to repair, GE said it's a throw away appliance. Not worth the hassle or money in my opinion.

Same. We finally got tired of how loud it was and unplugged the damn thing.

We've had 5 or so ….they usually last about a year. I hate how loud they are. After our last one died 6 months ago so we started buying ice…. It's so much easier.

We bought our daughter and SIL an Opal for Christmas 3? years ago. It worked great for 4 days then died. Luckily we'd bought it from Amazon and we returned it.

I have the opal - still strong after 5 years. Using distilled water will solve a lot of problems. That's all I use now.
