-Sitting outside Ag Solar Guard to drop kiddos car off to have cameras installed.
-Hubbys birthday!
-Bathroom remodel final complete! Glass got installed yesterday so could use it again this AM. Now to order some decor.

-Work gathering at Pluckers this afternoon. It's my first time going.

-Travel work

Excited about tomorrow! I get to go down to Galveston and board the new-to-Galveston MSC Seascape and spend a night on her. Get to explore and see all the activities onboard.

yep, I've been running synthetic in it for so many years now. It's a 2000 GT-S and I'm the original owner.

Had to google the MSC Seascape. I've never heard of that cruise line. Are they new?

MSC is not a new cruise lone. Up until now they've only sailed out of Florida in the US, and they are a very European cruise line . So with a lot of the clientele have historically been European even out of Florida.

But they really come a long way with their ships in the past few years and are starting to travel some of the other big cruise lines as far as amenities and activities on board.

It's still not as big as the really large Royal Caribbean ships, but I'm super excited that I get to try her out.

  • Been sick for the past 12 days and haven't had a good nights sleep since in that time
  • Up early this morning to go to Taco Bell for the release of the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie
  • Christmas lights went up on the house yesterday so that means the yard decorations can go out this weekend weather permitting
  • One of the nice things about living in KC is the multiple different varieties of apples. I've been working my way through them all the Crimsoncrisp was my top pick but the Ludacrisp from last night may have edged it out.

We moved last year. Honestly it's been great for so many reasons. A house came up for sale on our best friends' street so we bought it. Both wives are authors/coauthors, we have family dinners twice a week at each others houses, and their kids are practically our niece and nephew. We also got some much needed distance from family (my deadbeat sister in law).

Today is my sister's birthday. She's four years older than I am, which I hated when I was little. As an adult, it's a lot of fun to remind her about.

Beautiful fall day in Mid-Missouri. Upper 30s this morning on our way up to 66F this afternoon, and not a cloud in the sky. Might open my windows later.

Too many meetings on my calendar today, including an annual company ethics lecture. If I weren't already so ethical, I'd pay someone to log in as me.

MSC has been going full press on the American Market the past couple of years. They are also big sponsors of Formula 1 which has helped make inroads here. My buddy swears by them and has cruised with them 3 or 4 times now. Hope you have a great time!

I kind of had a nervous breakdown about all of it a few weeks ago. Then I came to the realization I can't control any of it so just going to live my life until our robot overlords decide I'm not useful anymore. Hopefully they are gentle when they wipe us out.

Thanks! I drove it off the lot brand new and still have the temp tag, window sticker, and other stuff from delivery. It was all back on the car at a show I helped run at work, along with my old Nokia and an AOL CD sitting on the passenger seat.

The car is stock with 3 modifications
- Aftermarket, period correct head unit (Nakamichi CD45-Z) which has a CD changer input that I use with a bluetooth receiver and the AUX input for a headphone jack cord so I can plug an iPod in
- Automatic climate control, which was not offered in the US. I bought parts from a car someone in the UK was parting out and figured out how to convert it all and add in the sensors and extra wiring harness
- TRD spoiler, bought from a guy in Vladivostok during covid. Way cheaper than trying to find one in the US!

She's been an indoor car the entire time

- Roof estimate / bid was $25,000 for house and garage.
- Roofers had to remove 2 additional layers of shingles + wooden shake that was not included in the bid.
- Roofing company was very up front, in person and in written documentation, that they would be charging $63 per sf if additional extra layers were found - and 3 were found.
- My math says that it's going to cost an additional ~$6,000. Mark estimates $3,000.
- Uncle Mark is not happy and angry at the roofing company. He seems to have accepted that there will be extra cost but it was a whole rollercoaster of emotion.
- I think he's going to freak out all over again when he sees the real cost, aka my estimate.
- Waiting to hear back from the roofing company on the real cost. Butthole currently puckered.

The amount of upcharge there doesn't make sense. I get a fee, likely due to them having to pay to dispose of more mass, but having worked on a roof I can tell you it's not that much more challenging or time consuming to remove multiple layers of roof. But $60+ /foot is asinine.

On many older houses it just used to be a standard practice to shingle over the existing shingles. I've seen as high as five layers of shingles. You can imagine the weight and stress on the structure, especially in a cold weather climate when you can have snowmass.

I'm just not sure it cost that much more money to dispose of it though but I could be wrong. I know it's not that hard to scrape it all off in one go.

Steve Lehto has done a few videos on shops wrecking cars because everyone is so used to driving automatics and no one in the younger generation knows how to use a clutch. Glad you found a good place where people are intelligent (hopefully).

I appreciate the feedback; I have absolutely no idea. I do know that it looked like it SUUUUCKED. It ended up adding a third for 4 of their workers (as opposed to the 12 who were there for the first two days) and then the remaining 8 showed up for the last 4-5 hours to help with cleanup.

But you're prob right that $63 sf is crazy high.

They're a specialty Toyota / Lexus place, and the '90s MR2s I've seen there were pretty reassuring. Likewise for my Acura, it goes to an Indy Honda place. They do daily drivers and builds back to late '80s stuff so they're pretty well vetted too.

Gotta send my car there for an oil change and CV axle change before the drive to TX next month.

Unfortunately it doesn't change my cost estimate bc I was doing it based on the square. Dang.
