What does it mean if a case is on the master docket of a court and the reason says "plea"? Will the trial begin that day and witnesses need to attend or what is expected to happen that day?

It means the defendant is scheduled to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. Or there's a plea deal and the judge wants to hear it.
