Man arrested for using AI to create bands and making 10M by using bots to listen to the songs.

Not sure what the difference is from companies like meta using bots to generate ad revenue.

It's not a very original idea. This has been going for years, which is why Spotify, etc. all have anti-fraud filters. But he might be the first person to do it on this scale.

Company: I am going to set up technology that allows my server to automatically collect data that I can sell to people and make lots of money.

A person: Oh I would like to use technology to make money too.

Company: **** you. Go to jail.

The intent would be to pay based on listens/views of real people because that's how you sell advertising or subscriptions. If you're employing an army of bots to bolster your numbers, but being paid as if they are real humans, that's fraud.

Cue the "was that wrong?"

When you use deception to take money, that looks a lot like fraud. He has only been accused and will have his day in court. Saying the companies were too stupid to stop him from taking their money isn't going to be a good defense.

Smart enough to think of the idea and pull it off. But not smart enough to move to a country that doesn't allow extradition.

Spotify better hope they don't have a bunch of fake accounts to bolster their subscriber numbers on paper, like Twitter. That would seem to weaken the argument.

on the other hand, the people listening to that crap have about as much chance of buying products as the bots
