  • Gym done
  • Used nuclear weapons to spray the yard for mosquitoes early before the good bugs come out. Worst mosquito population I can remember in Corpus
  • Mow lawn later

Another cloudy day in west Georgia/east Alabama. Colombian Supremo coffee makes it all better.
Because a good day starts with good coffee.
Make it a good one in spite of what humankind and the government of Kyrgyzstan are up to.

Went to bed too late. That's what I get for going for a walk after 8pm

Smoke detector malfunctioned around 12:30am or so. Second time this has happened with these First Alert units with the 10-year battery that I got in the spring. Not sure what the deal is with them but that was not helpful

Annual physical this afternoon. I predict "you need to drop a few pounds and exercise more" to be mentioned, which is true. That's why I went for a walk last night! Figured maybe I could drop 20lbs before my appointment today, but that's a lot for one day considering my record is 10lbs in one day so I'll just deal with it

Need to go to sleep on time tonight

  • It's Monday
  • Slept okay. Was up later than liked as had to wait on kiddo to get home from Roadhouse.
  • Starbs today and a kolache
  • Whatever is in my office fridge for lunch (or maybe canned soup).
  • Not too busy of a day.
  • Must do travel work tonight.
Have a great day!

You sure? Cause he referred to her as Pentecostal in one episode and she doesn't seem like a cessationist sort of person to me .

Another dreary today. Can't complain too much as it isn't going to rain, and it's supposed to stay in the 70s. Actually might open my windows. Going to be in the upper 50s tonight.

Have an appointment at 10:30 with my knee doctor. Not entirely sure why. It's been a month since my last appointment, and all seems well (at least to me). I like my doctor, but it's a PITA to get to that part of town. Maybe I'll use it as a chance to discuss what options I have for the arthritis in the knee. Doesn't typically bother me this time of year, but it can be awful in the winter.

CWS game three tonight. Last college game of the year.

Did you watch Young Sheldon?

Do you see her with really long hair?

Isn't she wearing makeup and a necklace in that clip?

She is a member of First Baptist of Medford. I got very confused because she once referenced a miracle.

Today I learned the amount of options for just cremation are endless and expensive.

Like a full on casket that probably weighs more than the person is an option. Urns are also insanely expensive, a tasteful cherry wood box is like $500

The whole thing is a racket. I felt like my mom paid a fortune to bury my dad between the casket, gravesite, funeral home, headstone, etc.

We are spreading my FIL's ashes in the fall so we don't need anything fancy. It was still over $3K.

I have thought about this a lot. I am going to make a reservation with a VA cemetery to get my spot early and try to have a relative craft a box for my ashes. I prefer plywood but I am sure the VA probably requires something more durable.

I used to work in the industry and they will almost never tell you the least expensive options unless you press them.

Buy the urn online. You'll save hundreds of dollars. If you want a service with your FIL's full remains present, rent a casket. If you are good with having a service with only his cremains present (or no service at all), you can do a direct cremation in an "alternative container" (cardboard box) and schedule services yourself.

Just make the inside of it big enough for the standard plastic box from the crematorium. As long as the plastic box is inside the plywood, they shouldn't care, but the cremains will be inside a 4-6 mil plastic bag, anyway.

We said whatever they gave us from the crematory would work (no special urn needed) and went with the cardboard box for the actual cremation.

We actually have the ashes from his dog who he loved probably more than any of us. I figure we will combine them and spread them at the same time. He'd like that.

Also somewhat funny story:

I was going through his room, clearing things out yesterday and wanted to turn on a world cup match. For the life of me I couldn't find the remote. I was worried he lost it and wasn't able to watch TV. At the funeral home they gave a list of his personal effects.

He had the remote in his pocket.

The UK is getting a new Prime Minister who just won a seat in Parliament subsequent to that:

" Last week, as part of that campaign, Burnham stood on a stage with a rival candidate wearing a trash can on his head and another dressed as a fox a reminder that British democracy has a taste for the eccentric that goes well beyond cucumber sandwiches."

Oddly enough Count Binface has a pretty lengthy career in British politics. He was previously known as Lord Buckethead but had to rebrand after a copyright claim from Sci-fi film maker.

He often stands in representation for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party and has had some pretty popular platform points like tying the salary of members of parliament to that of nurses
