A buddy of mine that is a movie buff said that he heard some scuttlebutt about this. Anyone else heard anything about it?

Tora! Tora! Tora! does not need to be re-made. Pearl Harbor does not qualify as a remake since it was historically not very factual.

Definately doesn't NEED to be remade, and I agree that Pearl Harbor was gawd awful.

I do think it would be great to see the special effects they could do today vs. when Tora Tora Tora was made. I'd be all for it, it they would keep it historically accurate...it's a story that is compelling enough in fact, and doesn't need Hollywood embellishment.

Agreed maybe they have some new "HD' black and white film they will use.

"Disturbia" remake of "Rear Window"
"I Am Legend" remake of "The Omega Man"

Hollywood has offically run out new ideas...

Maybe this time the USA will attack itself...

I actually liked Disturbia. Enjoyable flick.

But your right....Hollywood has no new ideas at all. (or the new ones are really really really weird and out there)

This years "The Hulk" is a remake of 2003's "The Hulk".

Five years.

I look forward to next year's release of the movie about the Spartan warriors plus one woman vs. the Persians: 301.

I agree with you, but do you really think that anyone in Hollywood can help themselves from trying to make it more interesting to the masses or add their own perspective on what did or should have happened?

EMY,
I think if there's even a prayer of that happening, it would be somebody like the Speilberg/Hanks team that was responsible for Saving Private Ryan and Band Of Brothers.

If they did it, I'd feel pretty good about the chances of it being historically accurate.

On an unrelated note, Tora! Tora! Tora! was the first movie my dad bought when he bought our first vcr back in '70's.

Tora tora tora is a great movie. And the action shots will never be matched.

Cgi bull**** has the tech to almost do it, but these hacks in Hollywood can't make it look real even when they have the tech.

Tora! Tora! Tora! was the first movie we ever watched with Stereo sound. My dad had these custom speakers he had built back in the '70s in Houston that he used up until about a decade ago. Anyway, when Stereo sound came out he reconfigured the speakers and placed them so that they were hooked up to the tv.

It was glorious. Sound! In Stereo! Lol.

I was about to call BS on this, but decided to look at clips, and holy crap you aren't kidding. I can't believe they didn't kill people. I was confusing this with the original Midway movie, which was mostly old real-life footage.

Yeah the filming of real squadrons of planes and blowing real **** up was masterful. Those hickam field attack clips are just completely incredible.

They were so good they were bought and reused in other films too. I think even midway reused some of them for its best footage too.

There are several shots from Tora! Tora! Tora! that are clearly included in Midway (1976). In one, we see some "Kates" coming in low with their torpedoes and you can see battleships nearby, when Midway did not have any such facilities as at Pearl. Then the famous sequence of a B-17 coming in for a landing on one wheel. It's been a while since I watched Midway, but there are likely a few more.

Dayum! Those actors probably got at least a campaign ribbon for working on that movie set!

I just found out, that was an accident. Those stuntmen where really running for their lives. They made the planes remote controlled, and this one lost control. Since nobody died, they used it and is basically one of the most stunning action sequences of all time.

Even if they were to refilm the actors and all the boat scenes (which look like they were in a bathtub), there is no freaking way they could sufficiently replicate this with CGI. I would do everything to keep all of these scenes.

Quick research shows you can get this on blu-ray which I will be purchasing. And it's the Extended Japanese cut. No idea what that means.

I just recently listened to a podcast about this movie and they said that this effect got out of hand and those stuntmen who were a part of the crew that did the detonations really were scrambling for their lives.

Yeah heard a rumor about that.

They should scare the **** out of stuntmen more often, cause those takes were awesome.

It's been years since I've seen Tora Tora Tora. Forgot how damn good it was. Favorite scene was the band from the Nevada playing the Star Spangled Banner as the attack started and just sped up the tune instead of stopping entirely.
