I just finished the fourth season of The Wire (God bless you netflix)
Initial thoughts:
-Prob my 2nd favorite season (1st being my favorite, the 2nd being my least). I liked the dynamic of Prezbo teaching, the kids in his class also being on the corners, the cops chasing them, and then the cops going to Prezbo for help. (sort of like a Jerry Springer love triangle)
-Sad that Namond got the only good ending out of the 4 kids (he was my least favorite). I really liked Randy and Dukie, and thought the Michael turn was interesting. Hated to see Randy getting jumped and Dukie on the corners at the end of the season (but I guess I'm a sucker for happy endings, and the Wire is the wrong show if I'm looking for those haha)
-When Carcetti was a councilman in Season 3 (before he ran for mayor) I hated his character. I thought he was just too weasely and was trying to stir up crap and he just plain annoyed me. Once he started running for mayor he became one of my favorite characters. Maybe I just like rooting for the underdog, but all of the sudden Carcetti seemed funny and witty and endearing.
-Nice break from McNulty. While he was still a prominent character, he wasn't featured nearly as much as in previous seasons. While I like the character, at times it was a little too much. I grew tired of the "anti-authority loose cannon but he's a really good cop" angle.
-Loved the Bunk in this season. He was featured more in this season than in any others (at least it seemed like it to me) and every word that comes out of his mouth is pure gold.
-Didn't care much for the Bubbles stuff. I liked him in Season 1, but now it's getting kind of old. Who didn't see the Sherrod death coming when Bubs was making those vials of poison (or whatever it was)?
-Love Omar. As always. Far and away my favorite character. Love the juxtaposition and contradictions in his character
-Liked Cutty for the most part, although he did wear on me at times. Would have liked to him play more into the Prez/kids/police angle.
-Sad to see Bodie go. He was one of my favorite dealers. He actually had personality and values (relatively speaking of course). I think I had just grown attached to him since he's been there since the beginning, and always seemed like an alright kid
-Not much Kima in this season (thankfully). The baby/lesbian stuff kinda beat me down (although it was hot at first)
-I liked the study by Colvin and that white guy. Thought it provided a humorous element to the show, as these 2 scholars try to overcome insurmountable odds and reform some of the worst students.
-Looks like they're setting up an epic Marlo/Major Crimes/Omar battle for the final season. I can't wait for that DVD set to be released
-Questions about the fifth season:
Will Avon return and challenge Marlo?
Will Marlo get revenge on Joe/Omar?
Will Major Crimes be able to build a case against Marlo after pulling all the bodies from the vacants?
