New Cinemax TV series

"Set in downtown New York in 1900, THE KNICK centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. The writing team of Jack Amiel and Michael Begler (Raising Helen, Big Miracle), who wrote the pilot for the series, will serve as executive producers, along with Soderbergh, Owen, Michael Sugar (Rendition) and Gregory Jacobs (Behind the Candelabra)."

Soderbergh is directing and it's staring Clive Owen. Cinemax has been running promos all week. Looks interesting.

I've been on a rewatching kick lately rather than looking for new shows. I did a rewatch of The Knick and it was a great show for those that never watched it. Even though it's set at the turn of the 20th century it's got the Soderbergh look and feel. Clive Owen is great and the supporting cast is solid as well. My only real gripe is the last episode, it was just rushed to tie everything together and close out the show. I don't know if the plug got pulled or if Soderbergh wanted to do other things because it's definitely an outlier compared to the rest of the episodes. It's only 20 episodes so it's not a big commitment to watch it. On a side note sometimes it's fun to watch something you haven't seen in a while and notice someone in a bit part who's made a name for themself since then. There's a brief shot where a guy is knocking on the back door of the hospital, and after rewinding it was Brian Tyree Henry.

Season 2 definitely dropped off compared to season 1. But still thought it was lots better than most trash on today. I was bummed when it was cancelled.

Was thinking about this show the other day. Good stuff.
