I appreciated Calamity Jane because most badass women of history would be somewhat like her. I get tired of movies with badass women who also look like runway models. I've known a couple of girls in my life I wouldn't want to fight, and they weren't much to look at.

Yeah, like I said... it's probably actually a really accurate portrayal. She just annoys me to no end.

Also, obviously if you know history you knew Wild Bill was going to die eventually... I just thought it would be more than 5 episodes in. Sucks... I always liked Keith Carradine and it was cool seeing a legendary figure like Wild Bill be portrayed. Which is kind of funny since I guess now Calamity Jane is the most famous character on the show.

Interesting characters.

Very good actors and writing.

Realistic sexual energy.

Epic cursing.

Molly Parker.

The Bard of Avon would have been proud and, probably, an avid viewer.

Deserved more than three seasons or, at least, a better ending.

Great series. I always had to watch each episode 2-3 times just to understand all the flowery dialogue. Seems like they use thirty words to convey what ten could, and still throw in a c***sucker.

Great show. EB Farnum is my favorite character to hate. Such a fawning, boot licker.

The best subtle comedy on the show is courtesy of Richardson.

The female chef from Treme is looking hot as a classy prostitute. Pretty impressive since she's around 40 at the time. Also according to IMDB Kristen Bell makes an appearance. Cant wait for that, I love her.

tapers off during the last season, but overall a good show and definitely an entertaining watch.

FYI - Dan D. is Warren "Have you seen my baseball?" from Something About Mary.

FYI "Dan" was also a major contributor to the writing on the show. I read some behind the scenes article not too long ago that was really good.

I liked Jane in the show. more balls than most of the men around that camp.

the cool thing about calamaty jane's portrayal is that is was REAL. everyone knows that most badass women back then had brown teeth that looked like a grizzly bear's butthole, and deadwood nailed it. the fact that she spoke like her teeth were coated in bear feces was just a bonus.

Well Kristen Bell's character was pretty stupid.

Just finished watching all 3 seasons. Great show and very disappointed HBO didn't give it a 4th season to wrap things up. Al Sweargen is one of the best characters ever to be on TV.

I never quite understand how people get so far behind on a series they should have participated in as pop culture conversations were actually happening about the series.

Uh, not everyone has hbo?

And I never missed a single conversation about this. Maybe my circles don't discuss tv shows. I knew 1 guy who talked about breaking bad and another guy who talked about mad men. Until netflix I never saw either.

I just started watching this as well. In middle of season 2. I remember when it came out and hearing about the generous use of the term ********er. The conversation between Wu and Swearingen seemed almost meta. Where al said 'I regret teaching you that word'

Enjoying it as well. But I agree that Jane is a little annoying

Anyone interested in discussion premium television should have a much shorter time window between first release and conversation. My recommended time window is 2 years from series finale.

I prefer to have conversations before the show has even aired. You are so behind the times.

If there was one weak area of Deadwood, it was most definitely the Jack McCall/Francis Wolcott roles being played by the same guy.

Finished this series this weekend.

I know they didn't know it would be the last episode, but for a season finale that last episode was disappointing in terms of any sort of resolution for just that season, and did not really setup as a cliffhanger either.

But I did enjoy the series. Too bad they never made the movies they talked about.

Perhaps Garret Dillahunt plays two different terminators sent back in time to kill Wild Bill Hickok and a bunch of random prostitutes.

It's probably my all time favorite show. Jane will grow on you as the show goes.
