The worst movie I've ever seen for how much "acclaim" it gets.
We watched it based on the Rotten Tomatoes review (95%) and were so impressed with how bad the plot was and the ridiculous scenarios, that we had to keep watching the train wreck (pun intended)...
It's one of those movies where people are so eager to excuse the new hip foreign director that they put on blinders for how awful the movie is. They will defend it because they think you just don't "get it". Like that SMUG episode of South Park.
No it's not a high minded metaphor for our future or a plausible dystopian of the icey effects of climate change. It's a very thin facade that is low and guffaw-worthy.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I enjoyed watching it the whole time, but would roll my eyes at anyone who got all excited about its metaphorical undertones. It was a video game, and it looked cool, and I enjoyed Captain America not being as annoying to me as he usually is, and the aforementioned thorough Swintoning.
I liked Octavia Spenser.
But probably because it is so rare to see Tanya as a character's name, even if they pronounced it wrong, in a movie.

Tanya, that was me watching Paranormal Activity. You never see Micah in a movie, and then one of the main characters in the movie is Micah and they mispronounce it the entire movie. It's m+eye+kuh, not mee+kuh.

I enjoyed it and ignored all of the metaphorical undertones. I just thought it was interesting that you had a caste system by train car on something that tightly spaced.
I really wanted to like it. The plot sounded so cool and it had so much critical acclaim. I just couldn't get into it.
I thought it was good but not great.
I just hope you don't think it sucked.

This is one of those movies where I get the criticism and agree to an extent while still enjoying the movie. It was absurd, but entertaining. Like if you took every dystopian trope and shoved it as tight as possible into a train.
I liked it and thought it was very odd.
I didn't care as much about Baby Driver.

Again, it was entertaining. Do these movies deserve all the acclaim? Maybe not, but that doesn't make them bad.

What were the metaphoric undertones again? I remember watching it, liking it, but not loving it. I haven't watched it since. I do remember liking the fight scene in the steam/sauna room.

I thought they discovered they were eating bugs turned into a paste or some such.
I didn't care for it, but I though The Host was brilliant. A dysfunctional family full of failures, finally come together, overcome many difficulties to heroically save the boy, and still fail.
