Linklater is currently at work on "a film set during the summer of 1969" in Houston. The film will be told from a child's point of view, with a soundtrack of "regional hits" from the time (naturally), with the narrative centering around one of the most captivating moments of that year: man walking on the moon.

"You had so much going on in Houston at once: NASA, the Medical Center, the Astrodome," Linklater said.

"There was a communal atmosphere. You had all these kids with parents working at NASA for a common goal," he added.

Weird how there keeps being similar movies coming out together. Damien Chazelle (La La Land) is working on a Neil Armstrong biopic starring Ryan Gosling.

Oh yeah, and in. I'll be looking for my grandfather working on JSC plumbing during the movie.

Good catch. First Man hits in October of this year and I imagine this will likely hit summer '19 or so, if not a few months earlier. Hopefully both one day make for an awesome double feature. As of now, I don't know which I'm looking forward to more.

Believe it or not, they were looking fr pilots to play the parts of background Astronauts and Mission Specialists for both movies. Delta Air Lines was notified. Not sure any of the guys took them up. One of the prerequisites was they wanted smokers or recovered smokers because they would look more natural smoking in the background scenes at Mission Control.

Kinda funny cause I actually went to Clear Lake High School. My classmates were the sons and daughters of; Chaffee, See, Conrad, Haise, Carr and of course, Lovell, amoung others.

Have they procured plenty of USED slide rules? the ones in Apollo 13 were obviously new fake ones.

Grew up in SE Houston during that time (was going on 5 during the summer of '69). We had a few NASA families on my little block of 16 houses, though most of them moved to Clear Lake or Friendswood over time. I remember a block party for one of the moon shots, though I'm not sure if it was the first one or not, probably was. Looking forward to this one.

As a side note, I was so impressed with Ron Howard's Apollo 13 regarding attention to detail. Most movies set in Houston are terrible about the details, but he did a great job.

The focus on detail also impressed me, specifically in a scene where the press is camped out in one of the astronaut's front yards with TV cameras all over, and there is one with the KTRK (Channel 13) logo that is accurate for the time, at least as I remember it.

Director Richard Linklater needs your Houston area photos, videos from the 1960s for a new movie. Have a home movie from Astroworld or the Astrodome, or a recording of your little brother with Kitirik? Did someone you know use a Kinescope to record the moon landing? If so, we want to see it and anything else that documents that era. There is no wrong material, as long as it from Houston in the 1960s we want to see it.
The relevant contact email for that is spaceagemovie@gmail.com.

This is going to be fun. Just FYI from a music perspective, ZZ Top formed in Houston in 1969 and Townes Van Zandt released his first album in 1968.

Gibbons was with the Moving Sidewalks before ZZ Top, and they played prom for my mom's school, Spring Branch HS.

I'm another Webster Intermediate alum! That school has been around for what seems like forever.

I can remember playing t-ball and basketball at McWhirter Elementary in the late '70s. I attended Landolt Elementary, though. I recall Mr. Landolt, who was probably well into his 80s at the time, mesmerizing the kids by saying the alphabet backward. It's amazing the stuff you remember!

This will be a good movie I'm sure.

If anyone knows the director, please ask him to include some catchy tagline. The 'Houston, we've got a problem' is played out.

If that soundtrack doesn't include Fever Tree I'm going to be pissed. My mom introduced me saying that she would watch from the school cafeteria pack up the van for shows. I've been a fan since I've been a kid and nobody younger than the age of 50 has ever heard of them.

I know a guy who claims he taught Billy his first guitar cords on the Christmas morning he got his first guitar. Guy was the original bassist in Moving Sidewalks and also the earlier bands with Billy.
