How long do you want to ignore this user?
Surprised there wasn't a thread for this (at least not one I could find),

This is the best show on TV no one seems to talk about. Only really discovered it a month ago and am fully caught up now as of yesterday,

Seems this might be a big week.

You should read the books! They're great reads.

I love Outlander. I think it is generally ignored because too many people think it's a romance. This season started slow, but each episode has been better than the last. This week should be good.

I think at its core it is a love story, but it is much more. Sci fi base, great historical knowledge it imparts, political intrigue, with a sweeping storyline covering continents, eras etc, and all with a really well developed set of characters.

This week by the way was the most bittersweet of all of the episodes, but really good. Hard to watch at times.

I just finished Sunday's episode. The ending was so beautifully orchestrated!! I love that piece, Adagio for Strings. But man, it made the ending stunning.

I cannot stress enough how good these books are too. And they're making this series so well.

LOVE. IT.

Lots of rape. As a husband of a rape victim, the story is a bit much for my wife. I know it defined the times, but dang, they can't have a season without one full blown encounter. We are trying to make it through this season still.

It reminded me of the final chase/showdown scene at the end of Last of the Mohicans. I assume it wasn't the same music, but I think it was at least very similar.

Yeah, the whole rapiness of it, male and female, is the only downside for me. This year it was literally three whole hours where that was the central story. No one wants that much sexual assault talk.

Kind of interesting that this was the first full episode without Jamie or Claire I think, outside of the letter being read. The rest of the cast carried it well though.

Was renewed for seasons five and six by the way,

Same here. And no, not the same music but very similar feel ('sad' song while tragedy unfolds).

Solid finale.
I was ready to fly to Scotland and punch the guy who plays roger, but he came through.

This is the problem with book versus TV. I was sad to see the departure from him being unable to talk (in the book) to his release being with only minor physical injuries.

His vocal damage was a HUGE part of following books.

I would like to know why Roger showed up at River Run so long after Claire and Jamie. Did he decide to go back to the future and part ways with them, but then change his mind?

He was struggling with the decision if he could accept a child that was not his.

Did the book elaborate more on how/when Roger separates from Jamie and Claire and how/when he makes the decision to return to Brianna on his own? I haven't read the books, but I knew Roger would reunite with Brianna. I understand the tv show has to cram thousands of pages of narrative into 13 episodes, but the jump from Roger being rescued to him showing up on his own at River Run seemed a bit abrupt, and I'm just curious about what transpired in between. It just seemed cruel to Brianna to have Jamie and Claire show up without him. I understood the point about his decision being tough, but two months had elapsed between Roger being told about Brianna's situation and their return to River Run. Did he stay with Jamie and Claire that whole time, or did he find his own way back to North Carolina?

I'll go read through it again tonight. What the TV show glossed over was Roger being this close to being hanged by the Native Americans. They barely got to him in time to rescue him, which is what caused vocal chord damage. This was such a big deal in the books because he's know for his singing abilities. So to be robbed of his "beautiful voice" because of a misunderstanding played a big part. He's pissed at Jaime and Ian and then to find out Brianna is pregnant and it may not even be him.

If I remember correctly, he feels ashamed that he "let" the rape happen. If he hadn't fought with her and listened to her to leave, it would have never happened. And he was adopted as well. I believe he struggled with not ever feeling like he belonged because he wasn't biologically his fathers son. The book kind of glosses over what he did/when he left/where he went. It just goes to Claire/Jaime arriving.

In fact, in the book, they return to Fraser's ridge and just keep on living and Roger comes back there after only a month delay. At this point, he still can't talk, so they don't really hash anything out. They just kind of accept that he came back and he accepts the son, even if he can't be sure it's his. Finally, at the very end of the book, there is a gathering of the clans. This is when Roger/Brianna make up. They clasp hands, look at each other, holding the baby, and when the Mackenzies are to be represented, Roger yells out THE MACKENZIES ARE HERE.

Really like this show. I just happened to be bored a few years ago and flipped on the pilot episode a few minutes in and began watching. When I saw the previews before the premier it did look like a romance story and I hadn't planned on watching, there's a lot of romance but it's way more than that. Very cool show.

hehe. Of course. I won't ruin anything for anyone.

This is my favorite series of all time. She's releasing another book this year. I always re-read the series when she does that. It's almost time to start cracking them open.

Wife and I started this show a few weeks ago and really enjoy it! Enough so to be planning a visit this summer to Scotland....

Trying to finish season 4 before this weekend!

Well after a half hour of chick pron (wall to wall wedding coverage), they finally set some of the storylines for the season. Should be interesting, though I must confess that since they moved away from old Scotland and away from the time travel angle it's somewhat less enjoyable.

Season finale was tonight.

Season finale was tonight...decent season, but my gosh, how many times can the plot line revolve around sexual assault? Literally they resolve that last one and within 2 episodes there's another one that will now be central to next year certainly. It's like the terrible disgusting version of Saul being kidnapped on Homeland.

Wife and I watched it last night. On one hand, I'm right there with you. Sexual assault as a plot device is wearing thin.

On the other hand, it shows just how brutal the past was, and it the show doesn't shy away from it.

Marsali murking that dude with hemlock was oh so satisfying

I see what you're saying, but they are pulling from books that are so much more complex than the show can portray. The assaults are in the books, but with a lot more space and time in between them, plus so many subplots and peripheral characters to draw the focus. I feel like the show writers are doing the best they can, but having to condense out of necessity makes it seem like the whole series revolves around rape and violence and that isn't the case.

Admittedly I skipped through a lot of the first half of tonight's episode. And I did the same with the last episode of season one. For me knowing what's happening is enough, I don't need to see it acted out. But overall I was happy with the finale. Marsali taking justice into her own hands was my second favorite scene, after "kill them all."

Started binging this series. Stunningly good for such a low profile show.

Renewed for season 7 though so obviously im not the only one that likes it

Wife and i both like it which is a little rare for so much history/scifi/18th century war and politics

Definitely lots of sex and a heavy dose of rape, some of the romance gets a little sappy at times but overall its definitely a top 10 all time imo. There are definitely some scenes many people (me) will want to skip but also some awesome characters and performances.

Main character is intriguingly strangely hot lady and good actress

One thing that jumped out at me was how strongly but subtly generational differences stood out. I.e. 18th c, versus greatest gen, versus boomer gen.
