Didnt see a thread, so I thought I'd start one. Just finished up season 5, and it's still the best detective drama on tv. Hope it gets renewed for a 6th.

Already renewed and damn it just dropped yesterday.

Already renewed.

The first episode is your standard Bosch intro. Murder, internal department strife, city politics.

The murder seems to have a lot more transparency and is more "out in the open" than seasons past. Everything about this show is so well done, so captivating.

Hmmm, I've read the books awhile back, remember hearing about this starting up and never searched it out...

Love this show. Well-written, well-acted and looks great in 4K.

I tried the first two episodes of season 1 and they seemed like a slightly grittier version of a 90s tropey procedural. Does it evolve substantially from the formula?

This.... I have gotten through the first 2 eps 3 times and never moved on. For some reason it feels so stiff. I feel like if I just plow through the 1st season I'll be hooked.

That's what my dad said about the first few episodes. He didn't like Bosch's attitude, but he powered through the first few episodes and he loved it.

We binged it this weekend. While we enjoyed it, didn't think it was as good as the previous season. The first 4 seasons I remembered easily from the books. This season I don't remember from one of the books. Anybody else? Maybe my senility is advancing further than I thought!

So satisfying given how the season has gone.

this season was based on the most recent Lincoln Lawyer/Bosch crossover novel (2018?). The defense attorney replaced Mickey Haller in the TV show. It was probably the weakest novel in the series.

Thanks. We didn't read that one as a friend said same thing: worst in the series.

This is my question. I love Michael Connelly and his books but I tried the first few episodes and I just couldn't get through them. Guess I will try to power through a few more and see how it goes.

is it the story? Or the actors? I tried to watch the first few episodes of Barry, but I couldn't take Bill Hader seriously as a hit man.

Well I like the stories and for the most part I think the actors seem well cast. It just didn't seem to click with me all that much. I have read all of Connelly's books 2-3 times.

I guess the retelling just is disjointed and a bit slow for me.

Bosch discussion not Barry?????

I like them both, though.

Bosch is one of my 'comfort' shows. It really quickly grew on me.

I really like the characters, and I know that I can stop on any episode and not be forced to watch the next one to avoid major spoilers or discussions (unless actively seeking out).

The show has replaced my slow burn staples such as 'Justified' and 'Sons of Anarchy.' Those - I really never felt the need to power through to finish.

I get that. I never read the books, so it was fresh to me. I started season 1 again because of this and I still think it's really good. Maybe I'm just a simpleton.

I haven't read the books either, but I like the slow burn to the explosion of stuff that happens the last couple episodes. There's payoff, usually satisfying. I still really enjoy the relationship between Bosch and Irving, even though Lance Reddick is playing a really similar character to his character from The Wire, Cedric Daniels.

It did feel like there was a few too many storylines going on this season. I didn't care about the two older detectives misadventures or whatever. Would have preferred a tad more devotion to Edgar's storyline which is obviously going to carry over to next season, along with Bosch looking into that cold case.

Such a great show. I think part of it is the fascination with LA life and culture. We want to binge through it but its better when it lasts. Im glad there is a season 6.

Watched it this week. I enjoyed it, but as mentioned, too many story lines. The main ones were good. The Edgar one seemed a bit late. Hard to imagine in 2ish weeks both the prison line and the drug line going on together, but whatever.

Acting and chemistry remains great. Loved seeing Opie make an appearance.
