Have to agree. I have the same 13 year streak and just told my wife I will pass this year. I thought I was just getting too old but at least some of you agree. I can literally walk to the festival so the day the lineup comes out every year is usually very exciting. I am actually a bit sad today.

Wow. That's worse than a Free Press Summerfest lineup. I'd be in for Guns N Roses and Gary Clark Jr, but that's about it.

As much as I love music, and have lived in Texas my entire life, I've never been to ACL. Every year I think "Maybe this year" and then the lineup comes out and I think "eh, maybe not." I feel like I missed the prime time to go when it first started, I was in my 20s and knew 75% of the bands.

This lineup is hot garbage.

I know it's cool to hate on Mumford but I went when they headlined 2 years ago and it was one of my favorite performances I've been to. Kasey Musgraves was great as well.

I'd go to see them again. I enjoyed the experience but I hate concerts for the most part.

It's cool to hate on Mumford's dumb decision to become Coldplay lite with their studio releases but their shows are fun as hell.

I doubt anyone on this thread doesn't see shows they'd enjoy in that lineup, it's just that the picking is much thinner than usual. I'd struggle to fill each day if I bought a weekend pass for this year. Usually you want to have to be deciding between 2 or 3 bands at every time slot.

Welp, that hurt. I recognize 5 band names, 3 being headliners. I think I need to lie down.

Every year you get new music. You have 5 months to try out a huge number of bands you've never heard before. You'll find several you like, and some you love.

Don't you ever get tired of the same ole worn out songs?

I'm not stoked about the lineup this year, but my advice is to just go. The experience of the festival is still a ton of fun, and you'll definitely find something that catches your ear. All the food and drink options are fun to try, and checking out all the sponsor goodies can lead to some neat secret finds.

Pretty disappointing lineup...was definitely going but not 100% now

Those of you who do go, check out Misterwives. They are entertaining as hell.

IMO That's a terrible reason to go to a music festival for someone who has never been. Sure, if you've been going for 5, 6, 10 years, it's easy to buy tix even if the lineup isnt great. But if you are making the decision to go to a 3 day festival for the first time, there needs to be lots (or at least several) acts you are excited to see. The food isnt really special - it is the "event" version of the same places you can eat at on any normal Austin weekend. The merch and other crap are fine but those are things you visit earlier in the day when you're killing time before or between bands you want to see, not a reason to go to the festival in the first place.
That being said, if the lineup does excite you, you're correct that you will almost always "discover" a few new bands you didnt know you liked before.

food and the "sponsor goodies"

ACL knows that it's core demo is 16-22, and they build the bulk of the lineup to fit that. They also know that group is going to show up en-masse pretty much regardless because of the "scene". They really don't need a huge headliner for that group.

Then, they'll get a few bands that the next big demo, 23-35 will want to see, and then finally fill it out with a band or two that the 40's and 50 year old crowd will pay that crazy amt just for that "one band" because they have the cash.

That's my theory at least.

Not sure if it's my oldness or the generally suckiness, but The 6th line was the first where I had never heard of any of them.
