Do you ever scroll across Netflix and give movies everybody thought was bad a chance? Like, somehow you'll be the one person who liked it. Last night I tried John Carter...sheesh, everyone was right.

That being said, have you ever tried a stinker that you actually thought was good?

I just watched the Wandering Earth after reading about how it had run up over $700 million dollars in Asia.

It was literally the worst movie I've ever sat through.

Every now and then I do that and they're always terrible.

The worst part is I even do that sometimes with movies I've already seen. "Well, maybe it wasn't really as bad as I remember... I should give it another chance."

I just usually don't even bother with a movie that has a rottentomato score under 50% unless there are multiple people telling me they enjoyed it. The few exceptions are the occasional comedy which I know are rarely critic darlings. Life is too short to waste it watching cr*ppy movies.

Am I the only one that can sit down wanting to watch a good movie, even if I have seen it before and spend close to 30 mins scrolling through netflix only to lose that desire and go do something else?

I literally pay Netflix good money every month just for the right to do this once or twice a week.

Yep. I oftentimes go into Netflix and have TOO much on my list, and rather than make up my mind on something I just switch over to Youtube.

John Carter is a good movie for what it was. Go find the thread on here about it when it came out in the theaters. Most people had no idea what it was about from the trailers, but I would say 80-90% of the people on the thread that went and watched it liked it.

Watching it made me go read the books

Exactly. It's to the point where my wife will not sit down with me to watch Netflix unless we already have something picked out. She knows it turns into a "wow you really haven't seen this" fest and we never end up watching anything.

I liked it better than Avatar. It's cheesy. Taylor Kitsch just over says everything.

On John Carter:

That dejah Thoris chick is a major babe. Plus I was a fan of Dominic West before I ever binged the wire. Add to that four of the cast of HBOs Rome (one was voice only) were in john Carter. And wilhelm "I can fap to this" Defoe and Lowell from Wings lent their voices to this also. Plus that science teacher who cooked meth in the desert.

No, I do that too. My wife gives me a hard time b/c I will sit down and watch a bunch of trailers, but then not actually watch anything.

The older and busier my life gets, the less I feel like giving away two hours to something that I may or may not enjoy.

I watched an Adam Sandler David Spade movie called "The Do Over" one time that I think went straight to Netflix. I actually enjoyed it, but both those guys were right in my wheel house during my adolescence so I was pre-programmed to enjoy it.

Movies with less than 50% that are awesome:

Three Amigos (46%)
Tommy Boy (42%)
Bad Boys (42%)
Legend (36%)
Hot Rod (39%)
Man on Fire (39%)
Super Troopers (31%)
Tango and Cash (31%)
Wet Hot American Summer (36%)

How about movies with high ratings that either suck or deserved about half what they got?

Moonlight - 98
Last Jedi - 91
Paddington 2 - 100
La La Land - 91
Life's an endless party, not a punch card.

Wine Country is terrible. I was expecting something like Bridesmaids, which maybe is what they were going for, but it wasn't funny at all and the characters were unlikeable.

Kind of the opposite of the OP, but there is at least one everyone said was good that ended up being terrible...

Not sure if this movie is on Netflix or not but I've never heard anyone else admit they've seen it or heard of it.

"Being Human" Starring Robin Williams. Came out in 1994. Here's the brief synopsis: "One human soul named Hector (Robin Williams) gets the chance to live five separate lives, through different periods of history. He is reincarnated as a Celt, a Roman slave, a Scottish crusader, a man shipwrecked in Africa and a modern-day New Yorker. And, though the same souls keep popping up around him, including his lover and his children, Hector makes the same mistakes over and over again. But it is through these many trials and errors that Hector learns what it truly means to be human"

The only time I've gotten up and left before the movie was over. I'd be curious if anyone has seen this and what they thought. The RT score was better than I thought. Maybe I wasn't smart enough to "get it."

I do this more often than actually watching anything to the end. When I reach the end of my rope, I will switch over to Amazon Prime because they carry stuff that Netflix doesn't and sometimes I will find something that peaks my interest and will then watch that.

For example, I did this exact thing on Friday night and ended up watching Dragonslayer on Amazon. First time I had seen it in probably 35 years. I remembered it being a little boring, but really enjoyed it despite it's dated SFX.

I watched it everytime I saw it come on HBO back in late 80s. I had a crush on Lea.

Space Camp, B2tF and Howard were must watch for me.
