Let's get this party started:

Quote:

"What are they about? I cannot say," wrote Martin in a May 4 blog post. "But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD [Martin's companion novel to A Song of Ice and Fire, about the history of Westeros] and come up with your own theories."

I am looking forward to this.

Bloodmoon is supposed to be set thousands of years before ASOIAF

Quote:

only Goldman's project has come anywhere close to getting off the ground thus far. It's a prequel set thousands of years in the past, in a Westeros very different from the one that Game of Thrones viewers and fans of Martin's originating book series know so well. According to the UK's the Sun newspaper, its working title is Bloodmoon, and production has reportedly begun on a pilot for the potential series, with filming having started in Belfast, Ireland, in May 2019

Time capsule post:

People are mad about the GoT finale.
People are hugely worried about D&D taking over Star Wars after Ep IX.
People hate The Last Jedi and Rian Johnson.
ASOIAF is dead for all intents and purposes. WoW may never be released.
Tom Hanks and Robert Downey Jr. are universally loved.
Nintendo is currently on pace retake its crown and win this generation's console war.
Most people think that the Avatar sequels will flop. (If they ever come out.)

Let's see how well this ages.

It will be interesting to see how much goodwill and future interest was lost with the last season.

I'm going with: almost none.

Dragons + Boobs + HBO = huge interest

The new show may suck and flop on its own, but I don't think fan butthurt from this season will have anything to to with it. Fanboy anger at all the new plot however....

There shouldn't be any dragons in this one right? targs aren't in this I don't think. We should see dire wolves and magic for sure.

I didn't read FIRE & BLOOD, but my memory of the other books is that they left open the possibility of pretty much anything magic/fantastical being true in the time before GoT

Actually that was my main complaint of the books, not enough fantasy.

It'll be set before Valyria was established if it's about the Long Night.

Based on the working title, I'm thinking that, besides Westeros, it'll focus more on the lands of the Far East.

From https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Long_Night#Essos:

Quote:

Other legends from the Further East, including Yi Ti, state the Blood Betrayal began the Long Night. The Lion of Night was unleashed upon the world after the Maiden-Made-of-Light turned her back on it.

According to a legend from Yi Ti, during the Long Night the sun hid its face for a lifetime, ashamed at something none could discover, and disaster was only averted by the deeds of a woman with a monkey's tail.

Thousands of years? That's like having The Ten Commandments as a prequel to Home Alone.

I just finished Fire & Blood, and that book has literally nothing to do with this prequel, it's a fictional history book of the Targaryen reign up until about 150 years prior to GoTs. Are we sure the OPs quote isn't being mis-attributed?

Actually, yeah he isn't talking about this prequel when he references fire and blood, he is talking about the two prequels that are still in script writing stage. This can only mean they are attempting to at least start a series about Aegon's conquest.

Edit: I imagine the other script being developed is probably for A Dance of Dragons which is probably the most compelling and ready made product for a TV series.

I think the Dance is more likely to be made since it'll involve more of the twisty political pieces. Aegon's conquest would almost be too straightforward (not to say that it has zero nuance). It'd be an awesome action-oriented series though.

The Targs weren't the only Dragon family, in fact they were only like the 17th most powerful family from Valyria who were all Dragon Riders.

I expect there will definitely be dragons, but they will be wild and untamed. Dragons in this world are known to be intelligent ("some say, smarter than men...")

Love this. Not to derail the thread, but few more...

- Intense interest in the MCU is waning in the wake of Endgame.
- Concern that Robert Pattinson won't make for a good Batman.
- Concern that the Bond 25 script is being rewritten throughout the shoot and won't make for a proper final installment for Daniel Craig.
- LeBron and the Lakers are a disaster.
- Tiger Woods is BACK.
- And my personal, ever-lasting favorite, "next year" is THE year for A&M football.
