If there are any of you out there that remember Dah-veed you might be happy to know that David Garza is doing shows weekly in Dallas, Austin & Houston this month. He is at Club DaDa tonight and next Thurs 01/19 in Dallas. The shows are free and he plays from 7-9pm. From what I hear he is playing a lot of old stuff from the Dah-veed days. Should be worth checking out.

Does he go by David Garza now?

Sheeiat. I remember seeing him back in '97 or '98. He was pretty decent.

What was that Best Buy commercial all about?

Yeah, he does. I believe he got dropped by his record label. His style changed quite a bit after he got signed and got rid of the other guys that were playing with him. Michael Hale was a great drummer...big mistake for him to trade him in for a drum machine. Looks to me like he's trying to rebuild his fan base. Wish they had continued on with what they had going in the beginning. I think they would have maintained a pretty large following.

Me too...I'm not so sure I want to hear what he sounds like now.

I loved him back when he was with Twang Twang Shockaboom and later with the Lovebeads. I haven't heard much of his recent stuff, but I do remember going to see him play about 6 times in two or so years in the mid-90's.

I was in Town Hall in my time at A&M and we brought Twang Twang Shockaboom to campus. They played the small stage in Rudder(Rudder Theater?) any ways they put on a great show was like '89 or '90. I bought a tape(that tells you how long ago that was) of theirs that night, used to play the s**t out of it, til some years later it was stolen at a party.

I also bought the album, that he was selling when he was on that Best Buy commerical, "My Euphoria" I believe was the name, never got into it, was nothing like Twang, very modern overproduced electronic sounding.

Those Twang songs were great, he clearly had some talent as a songwriter, great lyrics and melodies. Maybe he'll get back to that kind of music, there seems to be a great void when it comes to great lyrics and melodies in music today.

The name of his major label release was This Euphoria. I haven't heard a whole lot of Dahveed's earlier stuff from the late 80's, but This Euphoria, in my opinion, is his best work.

This Euphoria is a GREAT album. Overdub (the second major release) is also solid, but not as good as this euphoria. He got dropped from Atlantic/Lava shortly after releasing Overdub.

Davíd has been going by Davíd Garza for quite awhile now, although people still call him "Dah-veed."

He's been living out in LA for the past couple years, but has recently moved back to ausitn. He's got a project in the works that included Shawn Mullins (and some chick i can't remember). He's been out in LA playing gigs with people like Ryan Adams, Jude, Rhett Miller and the like. I've got copies of a few of his shows out in LA. He'll play like 50 songs including his old stuff and a bunch of off the wall covers.

One of my favorite shows I've seen him play was probably 5 years ago at Shadow. It was an all request show. You'd write a request down and throw it up on stage. If they knew it, they'd play it.

He's also been working on some stuff with Matt Nathanson and I believe he's playing some stuff on Nathanson's new ablum.

I still have that album and I haven't played it in a couple of years I'll have to pull it out and give it another try based on you guys' feedback. Looking back I think I was probably expecting something more Twang like and it was very different. And thanks for setting me straight on the album name, I was to lazy to go over to my collection and find it last night.

Those of you that remember Twang Twang Shock a Boom I'm sure have a little better idea of what I mean when I say he's playing some "old school Dah-veed" stuff. This Euphoria was good, but not what we were used to. If you saw TTSaB or Dah-Veed anytime from the early 90's to about 1996 you got to see a special thing! Not too sure if you can still get these, but I have:

Culture Vulture
Blind Hips in Motion
Eyes Wide Open

I wouldn't mind sharing them if anyone is interested. My email is in my profile. Also, if anyone has old Twang stuff I'd love to trade. It would be great to find a copy of "While My Hair Grows Long".

Funny, we were talking about him last night. Then I saw this thread this morning, and I checked the website and he's palying on my birthday next week. It's fate, I tell ya. I guess I know where I will be!

Perfect! Happy early birthday. I think we are going to try to get a group together and head out there next week as well.

Lt. Dangle, I have all of those titles as well. I did some sort of search on the Internet on those titles a couple of years ago, and now those CD's are considered rare!

He did production on Fiona Apple's new album.
He's married and in L.A. permanently now.

Makes more money off of his art now than ever.

My buddy and I used to work at Bryan Brewing Co. and TC hadn't paid anybody for a few weeks. Long story longer, we ran Stafford Opera House for one night. Gave away chuggers and had to clean the place up at the end of the night. Great experience! Think we blew two kegs.
