Tyler Childers new album dropped this morning. It's absolutely fantastic. Not a single weak song. Give it a listen,

In. Tyler Childers is one of my top 3 right now if not my absolute fave. Seen him live three times now too.

Loving this album so far - only gripe is that it's only 9 songs and 35 minutes

In my personal power rankings of active country artists he's in my number 1 spot.

Yeah I was hopeful for a couple more songs on this album, I think his "Hound to Heaven" would have fit on this album. After my first listen I'm really into "Creeker".

Big TC fan for quite some time. Have only listened once through, but honestly a little disappointed overall. I agree with the above that Hounds to Heaven would have been a great addition to the album and considering the number of songs he already has written, I am surprised it is only 9 songs. When it comes to the actual tunes though, it just feels way too slow and feels to me like he pulled back on a lot of the songs.

I know it will surely grow on me, but after only one listen I don't think it quite touches the level I've grown accustomed to from Tyler.

I've listened to it end to end a few times, and I like it. I really like Peace of Mind and Bus Route.

His other stuff has felt a lot more bluegrass than this album. It feels almost like 80's honkytonk. It's not bad, just different.

He left no doubt that this a COUNTRY album. Not folk/bluegrass/Americana, it's country.

I like the album. He's pushing his sound out with the fiddle and steel guitar, but the writing is still all TC.

Love TC, and this album is growing on me, but I can't help but feel like his sound was a bit neutered on this album. It feels like he smoothed out some of the rough edges, both vocally and instrumentally, that make his music so great.

Compare this version of All Your'n to what he recorded on the album:

It feels like the album version of this and many songs that he's played "rougher" live got "Sturgill-ed."

Either way, TC is the man and I'll keep listening, but I prefer the sound that we hear on Red Barn and Purgatory.

Described my thoughts perfectly!

As I have listened many more times it has grown on me a lot, but still can't shake that it doesn't have the grit you usually get from TC.

big TC fan and a fairly early adopter.....can't say that I love this album. i like a few of the songs, don't LOVE any of them. House Fire (aka Cinder and Smoke) could be so much more....great melody, great hook, just no substance.

Who was the earliest TA adopter? It might not have been me (though I think it was) but certainly a huge number of posters have jumped on the bandwagon since then.

Sturgill produced Purgatory so I don't really get that theory.

I've been a TC fan for about 2 years now. Saw him live at Scoot Inn in Austin about a year ago. He's very good live. The new album needs to grow on me some. I wasn't real impressed after the first listen. I think House of Fire is REALLY good. Bus Route is probably my second favorite. But this album doesn't come close to Purgatory IMO.

i don't claim to be the earliest, just know i have several friends that have mentioned TC to me in the last year or so like he was a new artist....when i had already seen him live 3 times.

a friend of mine mentioned him to me after hearing sturgill talk about him on a podcast. it was probably a month or two after purgatory was released, so early fall 2017. when he told me his name, i went to youtube and searched for him, saw the ourvinylsessions version of Nose on the Grindstone and immediately downloaded pretty much everything available on the google play store.

also, my daughter is a little over 3 years old. Lady May is her favorite song and she's been able to sing the whole song since she was about a year and a half old. she asks me to sing it to her pretty much every night before bed and asks to hear it every time we're in the car. i just played it for her this morning.

I was 2015, heard a clip of Charleston Girl on a podcast, googled the lyrics and found him that way. At that time there was only 6 song available on Spotify from the red barn recordings, then found more stuff on YouTube.
It blew my mind that somebody that obviously talented only had 6 songs on the major streaming platforms and was playing to next to nobody in small bars. I assumed that what he sang about must be very autobiographical and he was strung out on booze and pills and couldn't get his career off the ground.
Turns out I was wrong and he'd actually recorded or started to record what eventually turned into Purgatory a couple times and pulled the plug on releasing it because he wasn't happy it and wanted to wait until he had a recorded album he thought did justice to the songs.

The album is fantastic and has a great vibe all the way through. I would say it's as good as Purgatory, but I wish he had included a few other songs like "Song While You're Away" and "Redneck Romeo".

I love that this version of "All Your'n" doesn't sound the same as it does live and acoustic! It makes the live performance special...something you had to be there for (or watch on YT). People say things like "This band is great in concert, they sound just like the record!" as if it's a postive, but I appreciate the contrast of clean studio productions with raw and stripped down live versions. I also dislike when bands keep adding more members on tour to make it sound just like the album ie, the Avett Brothers, and I hope the Food Stamps avoid this, although the fiddle player is great at his shows.

Album of the year so far for me. Perfect length and the whole album is produced masterfully. Songs flow well into each other and there's not a bad song (Ever Lovin Hand isn't my favorite but it sounds great). I would bet this album bumps him into the national eye. He deserves it.
