Plot
Dora, fresh off her award-winning performance in "Dora and Friends into the City" becomes a full-fledged teenager as she moves to suburbia to attend school with her cousin Diego. It's a struggle to fit in at first, and things take a turn for the worse when Boots the Monkey (Danny Trejo) falls in with a bad crowd and gets addicted to heroin. Meanwhile, Dora's parents are kidnapped while questing for the Lost City of Gold, and it's Dora and her new friends off to the rescue! Recalling her long-ago days of adventure, Dora picks up the trail quickly and overcomes natural and man-made obstacles through a clever combination of saying words in both English and Spanish, counting items in a slow, monotone voice, and repeating choices of seemingly very simple decisions over and over again. The stakes have never been higher for this pint-sized conquistadora as she battles snakes, Nazis, Donald Trump, two-percenters, jewel thieves, hippies, and a shocking plan by her longtime nemesis Swiper the Fox (Daniel Day-Lewis).

Studio exec's Gmail calendar reminds him he was supposed to start Dora movie a month ago.

February 2, 2019
Filming begins on back lot of studio.

February 5, 2019
Filming wraps, party is thrown at area bowling alley. Cast gets nostalgic for start of filming 3 days prior.

August 5, 2019
Marvel admits "nerves up" on prospect of Dora movie breaking its newly minted record.

August 9, 2019
Film is released nationwide.

I haven't seen a single reference to the map in the previews but I was thinking they could go the Siri route and have her map on a device.

I saw the preview to this when I saw Secret Life of Pets 2 (hey don't judge I thought it was cute and I didn't have to pay for my ticket) and I just cringed.

I have never actually seen Dora the Explorer. They should do a dual release in theaters/streaming if they want to make any money. The kiddos go back to school soon.

Part of the reason I'm going is because of how terrible it looks (and to eat lunch at the Drafthouse on a Friday). My girls are 7 - they have seen every episode of the original series, including "Fantastic Gymnastics" at least 25 times, and then all of "Dora and Friends Into the City"

It looks like a trainwreck to be sure, but it can't be anyworse than Smallfoot or Rockdog. Plus, Jango Fett is in it.

Just got out. REALLY enjoyable movie for kids and adults. Witty, well-made with lots of laugh out loud moments. Highly recommended PG movie to end the summer with. Worth the money and will easily watch again.

seriously? This is a big surprise.

We've never even watched an episode in our house. If we took the kids without knowing anything about then characters would it still be enjoyable?

Honestly, likely not as enjoyable. Some of the best jokes were Dora's classic mannerisms, views on life and friends, naivety, etc. Knowing who the popular supporting characters are and the real life peoples reactions to them also.
Just force yourselves as family to watch a season of Dora then hit the movie (might be painful to sit through but your kids, if still young, will enjoy it). Then you adults will hate Dora as much as the rest of us and be eager to enjoy the movie!

The kids LOVED it and I enjoyed myself. If you did not have kids who watched Dora 8-10 years ago it wont resonate as well with you.

There were lots of funny in-jokes to appeal to the grownups in the audience, including younger Dora staring at a make-believe camera and saying "Can you say ______?" while her parents try not to worry if she's gone schizo. I largely made this thread thinking it would be horrific, and I did not get bored, although Jango Fett was criminally underused.
