Started Dark Crystal today, first episode was decent, though I'm not sure if my nostalgia will keep me interested enough for all 10 episodes.

Have heard nothing but epic things about the Dark Crystal. Introduced my kids to the movie a month ago, they are super excited to see Aughra and her amazing home again.

Made it through 9 episodes of dark crystal yesterday. Really enjoyed it and they've done a great job of matching modern cgi with the old school Muppet movements

Liked Carnival Row but was too slow at times and heavy handed with the "poor refugees" theme. Still, too good to pass up. Last episode is awesome.

Lots of titties on screen and foul language so not family friendly.

Dark Crystal is okay. The puppetry is as cheesy as it was in the 80's. Nostalgia helps.

Kid and adult friendly. I like it (2 episodes).

Just occurred to me there will be at least another season of Carnival Row. They had to have stretched out at least 1 season of content over 2 seasons.

Starting Dark Crystal today. I haven't seen it in probably 30 years.

Watched all 10 episodes of the Dark Crystal. The puppetry is really well done. It looks beautiful. I found the story to be a bit lacking though. If it wasn't for all of the fanfare it received I would have stopped after 2-3 episodes.

I have no idea what show you guys are watching, but my daughter and I loved the first episode of the Dark Crystal. Watched it over dinner tonight. We are hoping to get another one done Friday or so.

I hate to be that guy, but if you don't like a show, why do you keep watching the episodes?

I've watched through episode 9. Love the puppetry and how it has been interwoven with the CGI. Love how they fleshed out the world of Thra. Been well worth the time investment.

How young for Dark Crystal? I remember the film be a bit disturbing for my young self.

The Skeksees (spelling?) Might be scary for your baby girl if she's say... under 6 or 7?

There are some pretty violent and disturbing scenes with Dark Crystal I would say watch with caution under age 10. I am only on episode 3.

Soecifically the killing of the gelding and the eye beetle are pretty disturbing

I agree with KidDoc. Not something I'm letting my girls watch (all are 7 and under). Definitely some frightening moments for young children.

Finished the last episode. A little underwhelming, but still looking forward to season 2 (assuming they make another).

Was looking through the cast, pretty cool that the Scientist is Mark Hamill and the Chamberlain is Simon Pegg. So now that dude has been in Star Wars, Star Trek, and a Muppet movie. Not gonna lie, I'm jealous.

Woah just saw a Dark Crystal commercial during Thursday night football.

What an interesting time we live in!

Finished up Dark Crystal tonight and it was fantastic. It is pretty creepy and dark at times, and a bit silly at times, but a really fun journey and a nice change from CGI movies.

Dark Crystal was awesome. Agree that the story got a little weak in spots, but I loved seeing all of Thra so much that I don't even care to pick nits. I genuinely cared about the main characters. The voice acting and practical effects are top notch. The Skeksis are still terrifying in their way, and each personality so unique. Love love love the Gelfling clans and particularly adored Deet.

If they do more seasons I would love to see more background on the different clans and tie more of which Skeksis is tied to which mystic.

After watching the original movie after the new series I have about a zillion question- probably no real answers but fun to ask anyway. I'll spoiler tag it just in case.

BTW the original movie was really boring and a bit confusing. If you didn't like the original movie you should still give the new prequel a viewing.

So in the opening of the movie it is 1000 years past the end of the prequel and there are two gelflings left. It is safe to assume that the skesis drained all of them and the scientists' beast creation was the key to winning that war. However it still shows them sucking life juice off the dark crystal which was not working well enough in the sequel but 1000 years later it sorta is? Or maybe it isn't working well enough and that is why they are aging and the emperor is finally dying of old age.

At the end of the prequel what is going on with Deet? Does she become overwhelmed by the darkening and is now spreading it? Is that what kills off the gelfling and the world? What is the dark crystal? Was it designed to hold in this evil energy that would otherwise destroy the world?

The Dark Crystal is the Crystal of Truth, corrupted. The UrSkeks cracked it while trying to harness its power.

In the movie they state that the Podlings don't have near the potent essence that the Gelflings contained.
