I remember my cooler influential friend telling me to go out and see the Devil and Daniel Johnson doc about 15 years ago when it was released. It only played a few showings in a small Houston theater so I had to wait until it was put on the internet sometime later. I always recognized his art landmarks in Austin just never tied the two together I suppose. Fascinating mysterious guy.
