Just picked up the CD a while ago at a local shop, about halfway through but loving it so far. I refrained from listening to the released song, so it's all fresh. Some great sounds and playing (as you would expect), doesn't sound rehashed but echoes of Sorceress, but a bit moodier/melancholy, only through 5 tracks however.

Anyone else get to listen yet?

Looking forward to hearing this one. Will 'O the Wisp is one of my favorite songs.

I need to check this out although I haven't been a huge fan of their stuff since Ghost Reveries (which is one of my favorite records of all time).

I wasn't expecting a Burt Bacharach song with the title "The Garroter." Very cool.

For those that like Opeth..

Do you enjoy death metal?
Do you enjoy prog metal?
Do you enjoy Power Metal?
Do you like folk?
Do you like folk metal?
Do you like jazz?
Do you enjoy classical music?

I've never been able to get into Opeth. They just don't do it for me. But I like everything that makes them what they are. It's weird.

Will try and answer best I can, and your opinion is totally fair, to each their own:

Some, not a ton really. Can't honestly think of any that I just love. Never listen to that sort of thing with regularity, unless it's old Opeth, which is the only stuff of theirs that even touches the genre.

Do you enjoy prog metal?
Definitely, LOVE Devin Townsend, and like others that somewhat fit this one at least, like Meshuggah, Gojira, Animals As Leaders, Between the Buried and Me, etc. But Opeth is far and away my favorite of this genre.

Do you enjoy Power Metal?
Definitely, but don't listen to a huge variety of it. Huge fan of Soilwork and In Flames.

Do you like folk?
Yes, dig all sorts or stuff such as Ruth Moody, Lyle Lovett, Alison Kraus, lots of others.

Do you like folk metal?
Not a huge fan, but honestly just haven't delved into the genre. Is Amon Amarth folk metal?

Do you like jazz?
Not really, I like it on occasion in a live setting with great players like a Billy Cobham or someone of that caliber

Do you enjoy classical music?
Yes, took some music theory in college and it opened my eyes to the greatness of classical. Don't listen to it too much but go to see symphonies a decent amount if there's a compelling composer being highlighted. Love Haydn for interesting composition, love Beethoven for minor darkness.

I've never been able to get into Opeth. They just don't do it for me. But I like everything that makes them what they are. It's weird.

That is weird but sometimes it's just like that. There's a lot of great bands that I just can't get into. Have you listened to samples from all of Opeth's catalog? I ask because they have changed their sound pretty drastically from their origin to today.

I dig the album. Definitely still a fan of blackwater park through watershed over and above all else, but I really liked several tracks off pale communion.

I've had just one listen through so far. I'm still spending a lot of time with fear inoculum.

Thinking outside the box but try either burden, fair judgement, or isolation years, and report back. These are some non metal tracks they put out during their death metal years. While they have been non death metal for 4 albums now, these types of non metal songs in their past are just much different to me than their modern progressive rock/folky sound.

It's been a couple years, and I've definitely been getting BACK into metal again. I'll give Opeth a lengthy try again.

Currently on a huge bender of Scar Symmetry and Solution .45

Never heard a singer with such a great singing voice who can also growl the way that guy does for both of those bands (he was the vocalist for Scar Symmetry before leaving for Solution .45)

As far as folk metal, check out Eluvietie. Start with the song Inis Mona and then listen to King. The though of bagpipes, flutes, a hurvy curvy, and violin in a melodic death metal band sounds cheesy, but they are absolutely amazing at their craft and it works.

This is Mikael in my opinion.

Check out lotus eater right off the bat.. he goes back and forth between singing and growl flawlessly.
