10th album finally released today from The Avett Brothers after over 3 years!

A handful of songs that have been out there from concert recordings (Who Will I Hold, C-Sections) but not nearly as many as I expected or wanted. And a couple they released early (High Steppin, Bang Bang) but other than that all new to me.

Album certainly has several political songs ...primarily from Seth (New Woman's World, Bang Bang, We Americans) and then filled with much slower songs than albums past, but less over-produced than True Sadness (this is a great thing IMO).

Scott's contributions are quite strong, but I don't hear many classics / hits on a couple listens.

It's not their top-tier work, but it's a solid album, as usual. There's definitely a song or two I'll skip in the future. I'm left leaning, so I'm onboard with their more political stuff. I figure it'll rub some fans the wrong way, though. "Who Will I Hold" is lovely and I really liked the "In the Curve" or "Ballad of Love and Hate" vibe of "Long Story Short." They do story songs really well.

Also, if you haven't listened to them on the Armchair Expert podcast, I highly recommend it.

I really wanted to pre-order this but the vinyl is $45-50!!! That's insane.

I feel like the communication has been pretty crappy for this album. No explanation of why it's $50. Most new vinly releases are half that price.

New Woman's World is the worst song they've ever put out. Yikes, talk about pandering and uncreative. But then I think Locked Up is one of the better songs in the past 3 albums. Couple others I didn't care for on first listen but there are some gems too.

They have been playing these at shows also...

That's a total DMB move. Hell they've performed songs on tour for 5 or 10 years before laying some of them down on a studio album

Avett released The Third Gleam today.
Gleam albums are acoustic 6-8 songs

This one includes Untitled #4 which has been floating around on youtube for years and played at shows sometimes.

Few really good songs...and some more of Seth sounding a bit pathetic.
