When people talk about how certain movies would never be made today, the first one that comes to mind for me is, "Blazing Saddles." It's still a great movie, and extremely funny. It's very much like a Dave Chappelle skit, in that it points out racism by going over the top in its own racism. Even though I think modern audiences are still able to see its not racist, despite its over the top racism, I don't think there is a movie studio out there that has the balls to produce it. They fear the twitter mob too much.
On an entirely different note, another movie that I think wouldn't be made today is ,"Germlins." It is essentially a horror movie whose target audience is kids. Growing up in the 80s, I remember watching horror movies like. "Friday the 13th" in 4th or 5th grade. Now days, no parent would ever take their kid to a horror movie until they are a teenager at the earliest. I can't see a movie studio green lighting a project to make a horror movie aimed at 4th graders. Sure they might make a movie like "Goosebumps," but that's nowhere near the level of "Gremlins."
What other movies would never be made today? And I mean, movies that still hold up and have value for today's audience, but for whatever a studio would not green light. Not a movie like "Song of the South" or "Birth of a Nation," which is just plain racist.
