Getting old sucks man, he probably can't hear himself sing anymore so you have to cut him some slack.
Saw them a couple of years ago. He did everything he could to talk the lyrics vs. sing them. But he could still jump around pretty well like a crazy, in shape mofo.
This is why I'll take being good at an instrument over singing any day of the week.
If somebody forced me to watch either that or Cats...I might actually have to choose Cats!

Yep, that's what you get with DLR and Vince Neil. A bunch of half assin' only sing every 3rd word and talk the rest of them. Would never pay a dime to see either one of them again. And I was a massive fan of both in the 80's.
That sounds so bad. Who would even back that show? Poor guy is WAY past his prime. He looks like an old drunk grandpa.

The sad thing is if he really cared and put in the effort and worked with a voice coach, put in the time to do vocal exercises, and warm up for shows he could probably sound pretty good. Not as good as his best but at least he could work in a vocal range that he can actually sing in. I mean good god, put in the minimal effort, at the very least so you aren't embarrassing yourself.
I look at bands like Metallica where they are getting up in age but even if its not "their best" they still sound very very good at their shows and its not by accident. In interviews Kirk says he still has to practice scales and put in the work to keep up his dexterity. James found a vocal coach and voice exercises that work for him and does them before every show.

Plenty of older singers still sound amazing- Bruce Dickinson and Sammy Hagar jump to mind. He just hasn't worked on it as much as they have. Hell Bruce had throat cancer and still is much better than Dave.

Saw a few more clips, and his old school fans were harder on him in the comments than we are here. I'd like to see Diamond Dave "pivot" (again). Take it down to a piano and brushes on the drums. Go jazz where the notes he sings or talks are supposed to sound f&$ked up, because trying to sing karaoke to his old songs is destroying him.

Hasn't he always been a terrible singer? VH's manager said on his book that he was never the singer but he was a good showman

half the time Dave was singing there, he was attempting those high pitch screeches/yelps that he did so often, and it's god awful.
Dave has always had that exaggerated smile on his face. But as he ages, it's gone from campy to creepy.

I watched VH twice in concert, once in '82 and the other in '92 or so both times they sucked!! Biggest big band disappointment ever.

I was there also. It may have been tea, but he was terrible enough that night for it to have been Jack. Forgetting words is one thing, but whole verses?
