I started this for 2018 so that more people could participate, and now that everyone has had a little extra time for 2019, consider this thread dedicated to either your top ten FILMS, top ten TV SERIES, or a combination featuring both (films, TV series, documentaries, etc). Here's where I stand on the year...

OVERALL

01. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Film)
02. Avengers: Endgame (Film)
03. Jojo Rabbit (Film)
04. Succession - Season 2 (TV)
05. Mindhunter - Season 2 (TV)
06. Uncut Gems (Film)
07. Chernobyl - Miniseries (TV)
08. Crashing - Season 3 (TV)
09. 1917 (Film)
10. Fleabag - Season 2 (TV)

No problem.

- A Hidden Life is Malick's most linear, narratively focused movie in I don't know how long. There's a coherent story there that actually feels like a traditional movie. That said, it's still extremely Malicky, and still a bit too long, but it's his best in years, I think. It really does feel like he somehow took a film crew and equipment back in time to 1940s Austria. The sets and cinematography are stunning, as is the score, which I've listened to quite a bit over the past few weeks.

- As for Bombshell, honestly, I wasn't a huge fan. And this is coming from someone who mostly despises Fox News. Parts of it are good, but overall it just feels like way too much of a parody. It plays like a poor man's Adam McKay effort and just never really came together for me.

- I haven't seen Portrait of a Lady on Fire yet either, but will probably wait for that one on streaming.

1.) Chernobyl (TV)
2.) JoJo Rabbit (Film)
3.) Watchmen (TV)
4.) Once Upon A Time in Hollywood (film)
5.) Avengers End Game (Film)

... man, I didn't watch much tv or film this year! The top three on my list have stuck with me, for whatever reason, much more than the others (or some films I saw but didn't bother to list)
Thanks and gig'em

7. The End Credits of The Lego Movie Part 2 - God Bless Beck

Hmmm. Chernobyl is definitely my #1, regardless of category. Have to think on the rest and come back later.

This was such a huge year for both TV and blockbuster movies, it's hard to whittle it down to 10. I didn't realize how TV-heavy my list would be until I made it.

1. Once Upon a Time In Hollywood
2. Succession (S2)
3. The Irishman
4. Game of Thrones (S8; Yes it had its issues, but it was still a massive event for me and it had its moments.)
5. Avengers: Endgame
6. Chernobyl (Mini-series)
7. Stranger Things (S3)
8. The Mandalorian (S1)
9. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
10. Joker

Just outside the top 10:
Doctor Sleep
Marriage Story
El Camino
Ready or Not
Rocketman
Spiderman Far From Home
Barry (S2)

Sidenote: Really wanted to watch Parasite, Honeyboy, and 1917, but none of those released near me. (Except 1917 which just came out last night. I'll be checking it out tomorrow.)

Have a feeling all 3 of these would contend for either top 10 or honorable mentions.

My list is super TV heavy because I didn't get to see a lot movies in theater this year. Joker, 1917, Uncut Gems, Knives Out, etc. are all movies I haven't had the chance to see yet and hope I get around to soon. Haven't seen Chernobyl yet either but that's on the watch list as well.

1. Watchmen
2. Knives Out
3. Joker
4. Shazam!
5. Mandalorian

I wanted to put Endgame, but these were better to me. Far From Home and Captain Marvel did nothing for me.

I didn't get out much this year because we had a baby in April, so I left it at top 5.

There are a lot of films I haven't seen yet from this year but honestly TV dominated it for me anyway so here's my top 10. My ranking are based by my personal enjoyment and not necessarily how much I felt it was "the best" for everyone.

1. Watchmen
2. Succession
3. The Mandalorian
4. Endgame
5. Last Black Man in San Francisco
6 The Good Place (just discovered it this year so I binged the first 3 seasons and then watched the 4th)
8 RIghteous Gemstones
7 The Expanse (just discovered it this year so I binged the first 3 seasons and then watched the 4th)
8 RIghteous Gemstones
9 Game of Thrones (highs were still amazing)
10 Mindhunter

I see a lot of talk of this year being an amazing film yea and I think it was but for me there was no bi standout film that I'll really love watching forever. There was a lot of very good above average work but nothing that blew me away.
