Didn't see this posted anywhere, but it seems that Sam Esmail is creating this series. It's a new story within the universe of the remake, not the original. Says they aren't recasting it, which makes me think some characters / actors will return?

The finale and basically most of the last two seasons with the "final 5" ruined me on BSG, and I never watched Caprica. They would have to change some things for me to watch.

I concur. I have no idea why people thought this was a good show.
Just a complete train wreck of a show in terms of having a coherent vision of where they wanted to go. Each season was almost an entirely new show/premise (a lot like Fringe was).

I agree the show dragged on and the ending seemed a too fairytale and perfect. And I'm a little concerned about direction and cohesion with Esmail considering how Mr Robot played out.

I guess it's fitting he's creating this new series. But he's really creative, and considering the success of The Expanse I am looking forward to this.

Hopefully he has a better story arc from beginning to end rather than feeling his way through.

While the ending wasn't perfect, I think there a lot of overly dramatic people that pile on it too much.

It had good episodes, great episodes, filler episodes, bad episodes...and that was in every season. To say that the last two seasons and the finale were a train wreck fails to acknowledge that no season was without flaws. And to dismiss the entire series because of the finale is just crazy.

It was an uneven show that, when it was good...it was fantastic. And that makes it a good series overall.

The BSG fiery atmosphere reentry scene before they jumped away was unforgettable and sent chills all over, but was the turning point and kind of jumped the shark for me.

The writers did NOT plan the final 5 in the first two seasons to be the ones they ended up being. They had not planned it out from the beginning. It was basically GoT level crap in retrospect. And the finale was too preachy and dumb. Basically i dont see how they could do another series in the "past" from that. Who the hell cares

Baltar was one of the best villians in scifi in a while and his acting was great.

And i agree the show jumped the shark at the Battlestar reentry scene above . The way the show went at that point was not consistent with how it had been prior.

BSG was awesome but not sure if I'll watch this. Will wait for more details.

I don't watch much TV, but BSG is my #2 drama of series of all time trailing only The Shield.

So I watched the series a few years ago, but stopped a couple episodes into the final season. People said the ending was bad, and I should just quit while I was ahead. So I did. Finally I picked it back up and I'm watching the last few episodes now.

I thought it started out fine, but not great. But last night I watched the 2-parter about Gaeta and Zarek's mutiny. It was as good as the series has ever been. The Admiral was powerful, and so was Roslyn. Starbuck was the badass soldier we loved early on. Baltar also had some nice moments. I'm not sure where the last few episodes are headed, but that 2-parter was incredible.

Yep. There's a huge difference between "THAT WAS THE MOST FREAKING AWESOME THING EVER AND WILL NEVER BE TOPPED" and "We're our of ideas so here's the Fonz on skis"

I was such the biggest BSG nerd that I stood in line at a con in Richardson to get Michael Hogan's (Saul Tigh) autograph. Needless to say I'll give the new series a watch.

I am sad that so many of the actors from that show didn't do on to bigger and better (specifically, Baltar, Chief Tyrol, and Tigh). I know Athena went on to Hawaii 5-0 and Million Little Things, Helo does a lot of minor roles on shows, and #5 will always show up as a hottie.

While I agree I'm nervous about Esmail's mindset of plot doesn't matter, this might be a fun ride

Agreed and a shame because with the writing and dialogue the actors had to work with you would think more would have become household names .

Katee Sackoff did pretty well but she's about the only one that made the jump .

This is a definition of jumping the shark I found on google

( of a television series or movie) reach a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality.

I need to find the original BSG thread where the reentry was discussed and the question of whether or not it was "jumping the shark" back then. you can still claim it is visually stunning and also say it is defying physics, which is what the discussion was about.

I think it is here https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/714023/replies/9451481 tHis is right after it happens and people already are questioning if it is jumping the shark.

Best moment of Man of Steel was Gatea and Helo being in the same room at the same time.

First of all, you had to Google it?

Second of all, it's hard to say something jumped the shark as it happens. I think the perspective of the 13-1/2 years since that episode aired has a lot more people counting the Galactica's in-atmosphere jump to be one of the top 5 if not the single best moment in the show's history.

I googled it so you idiots wouldnt blast me for what jumping the shark is, since there is direct question on this thread on what it is. And i claim that that was the start of the downfall in writing on the show but that the visually appealing nature of it is still great.

I am pretty sure i argue in that thread i linked it WASNt jumping the shark.

I cannot believe the "Adama Maneuver," which is so beloved it has its own urban dictionary entry, is being disparaged. It was one of the greatest Sci-Fi moments of all time! Count me in as another person who enjoyed every season of the show... I never understood the hate for the ending.

It wasn't perfect, nor was the series, but I thought the religious bent of the finale still worked since religion was integral to the story as a whole. This is actually one of the upcoming series I am most excited for.

I would say the shark jumping moment, if there was one, was some point where they are planet side in the cylon camp. Some questionable writing and scenes taking place there, but it didn't detract from my overall love for the show
