Primus has announced that their summer tour will act as "A Tribute to Kings," with a full recreation of Rush's 1977 album A Farewell To Kings at each tour stop.

Needless to say, this tour comes in the wake of the death of Rush drummer Neal Peart but, as bandleader Les Claypool notes in a press release, Primus' ode to Rush was "originally scheduled to be performed in the Fall of 2019." Plans were sidetracked when Slayer invited Primus on the road, but now, the tour seems to hold even more meaning, honoring the prog-rock innovators in more ways than one.

The "Tribute To Kings" tour will stretch over 40 shows, from May 26 to Aug. 2. Standout gigs include Bonnaroo (June 12), New York City's Beacon Theatre (June 17), LA's Geek Theatre (July 18) and a tour-closing stop in Phoenix (Aug. 2).

Geddy Lee jammed with Claypool as recently as April 2019, adding bass to the Lennon/McCartney composition "Tomorrow Never Knows" at a Claypool Lennon Delirium gig in Toronto.
Adds Claypool, "Geddy, Alex and Neil had been superheroes to Larry, Herb and I in our teens, so when we all became pals while touring together in the early '90s, we were pretty delighted; partially because of the musical geek-out factor but mostly because the three guys whom we had admired so much from afar, turned out to be truly great, down-to-earth humans, and like us, a tad eccentric. The 'Tribute to Kings' tour will be just as it is implied, a respectful and loving tribute to three spectacular musicians, songwriters, legends and friends."

Pre-sale for the Primus "A Tribute To Kings" tour will begin Wednesday, Feb. 19.
The general public will have access on Friday, Feb. 21 via Live Nation.
For more information visit Primus' official website.

I think I'm going to get Revention tickets in Houston instead. I went to moe. and Blues Traveler at Toyota in Irving last summer and they had the worst security I've probably ever seen at a music venue.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the password for tomorrow's presale is "kings" for those interested. I'll update if I find out differently.

Is Revention what they're calling Bayou Place this week?

Not sure. It was Revention 3 or 4 years ago when I saw My Morning Jacket there. I thought Bayou was what Aerial Theater was 20 years ago. They could all be the same venue for all I know just as Starplex will always be Starplex despite the 7 name changes since I was a kid.

Makes sense, that would be just after I moved from
Houston. It was Aerial Theater, Bayou Place, and I think something in between there, looks like it's now Revention.

Geek theater? Is that in a best buy or something?

All that were available just now in the presale for Houston was GA VIP packages so I snagged one that includes a signed poster and exclusive Q&A with Primus before the show.

No password was needed. Can't wait.

Everything is completely outrageous these days. Got balcony for Isbell/Billy Strings and it was freaking $115 for the Bomb Factory.

The Panic Austin shows at Moody were $115 each as well (of which I got sold out of). I think my first Widespread show at the Woodlands in 1999 was $25.

You guys remind me when it gets closer and ill put you on the vip club list for Irving. Its nothing special, but private ****ter and phone charging stations are a nice perk.

I hate how high ticket prices are but the artists have to find a way to make up the lost income from stealing/streaming of recorded music these days. That's why more & more artists are doing the paid meet & greets at their shows. I don't like it but I understand it.

I personally like the VIP and/or M&Gs for bands I really like. That way I don't have to show up really early for the show, don't have to wait afterwards by the tourbus to see if i can get something signed. I remember when Anthrax got called out for that and Scott Ian explained they sell their VIPs because of the loss of revenue from streaming
jorgerr96

That being said some are definitely outrageous. I bought the Black Sabbath one for their last show in San Antonio and I am sure they didnt notice me when I walked to stand next to them lol. Only one that acknowledged me was Iommi

Plenty of people. But even if you pay for streaming the artists don't make jack **** off that. Pennies compared to when you actually had to buy music in stores.

I didn't think people bothered stealing anymore, since you can basically get it for free.

That does give credence to your second point...that most artists can't exist off of royalties anymore.

You wonder why many artists even bother making albums anymore. Release a single every month or two in perpetuity and stay top of mind. Then you can tour whenever you feel like it.

This is a fair point because a million streams on spotify apparently equates to only 6-8K to an artist according to CNBC.

However, I've seen numerous artists talk about how they got screwed over by record labels back in the day and how they never made much off of cd and album sales anyway.

I realize not every band is built for or wants to tour every single year but the ones that do seem to be able to keep the cost of tickets pretty reasonable and make a killer living. It only feels like the last couple of years where just about every single show on ticketmaster where you can pick your seats have super high prices.

But even worse are the small to midsize venues. No way should Jason Isbell cost $115 while Pearl Jam floor seats were also $115.

It also has to do with artists seeing what people are paying scalpers & deciding to charge a higher face value and take the profit for themselves. Can't really blame them for that either. If people are willing to pay those prices, why should the money go to the scalpers instead of the artists?

physical cd sales paid artists way more then streaming now does. Artists have to tour and sell merch to make all their money.

Saw an article recently that metallica still makes a lot of money on black album, because it still pretty much goes platinum physically every year. But streaming doesn't net near that much.

This.

Most artists like making money at their job just like people do. If their analysts say the market can bear a $125 ticket, then many are going to charge that.

Sure, you could make the case that you charge less per ticket and that creates more fans and will lead to extended future tours, etc... But that's the workplace equivalent of "take this crappy salary but if you stick around and do good work in 10 years you'll make $xxxx". A lot can happen between now and then. Jason Isbell might lose his fire. The interest in live music touring could shift. Etc... Can't blame artists for getting that $$$ while it's there to get.

I feel like PJ, Metallica prices are just very fan friendly. U2 pit was $90 for Joshua Tree tour, a steal.

Then you have The 1975, Shawn Mendes, charging $120 for pit lol. I almost went to see ariana grande in 2017 and section 100 were like $160

They are fan friendly because they already got theirs.
