I listened to it after reading the news story in January that the FBI has contacted her mom and told her to expect some surprising news. Waiting patiently for some type of development in the case.

We listened to the whole podcast driving back from Colorado a few weeks ago. The guilt that the girl who went home must go thru from time to time has to be intense.

Seems like Paul knew what he was doing. He wanted to get rid of the friend so he asked for a kiss/hug making her uncomfortable ... it worked ... she quickly gtfo leaving him alone with Smart just like he had planned. Was a calculated move for sure. Girl wanted to gtf away from the dude asap.

It didn't seem like they were friends though Smart seemed like a loner and at the time was just some random freshman drunk girl that was being a pain in the ass for needing to be helped home.

Very true, slipped my mind. I forgot did they interview her on the podcast or did she decline?

I think they interviewed her in episode one or two.

Wow, how timely. I heard about this podcast a few months ago (i sub to /r/UnsolvedMysteries on reddit and there were developments in the case being posted in late January), but didnt get a chance to listen to it with my wife until we were on our way back from Houston this afternoon. We got about 2.5 episodes in. Very good.

Seems to be a common theme with these types of cases that the law enforcement comes up with a pre-conceived idea of what happened, develops tunnel vision, and the entire case is completely botched due to that...but the fact that they never even really started investigating the case until about 5 or 6 days later is a particularly baffling new wrinkle -- especially considering the fact that most LEO agents agree that the first 48 hours are the most critical in missing persons cases.

That and the fact that the SLO police and the Cal St. Poly law enforcement officers didnt really want to claim that they were leading the investigation even up to a few years ago.. no one wants to take responsibility for ****ing it up so badly.

Cant wait to finish, but if you liked this podcast, I would highly recommend the podcast Framed about the disappearance and murder of Brian Carrick.

It's pretty upsetting that people like the Flores exist. Can't even imagine the kind of human beings you have to be to have such a lack of empathy

Had a friends gf that had this happen and the creepy guy just happened to be there to make sure she got home ok

It was pretty good. Most frustrating part was hearing how the authorities handled things.

The biggest admission of guilt in this whole thing is the Flores's staying put. Through all the torment and scrutiny, they just stay where they are and take it??

If they were innocent and had nothing to hide they would move.

If they were innocent, taking all this **** for two decades makes zero sense. These people have been hounded and had their lives upended. If this wasn't true, you'd be screaming from the rooftops. Instead, they clam up.

This wasn't even a mystery podcast. It's so clearly Paul who did it and is guilty, and they aren't even really disputing it. They're just trying to avoid penalty through technicality.

The only part that wasn't discussed that i'd like to know is what actually happened that night to her body. So since the dogs smelled her body in his dorm room and his roommate wasn't home, it seems clear he brought her to his room, assaulted her and then killed her.

But how did he get her body out of the building? Did he keep her in the room the entire next day until late at night? How did he get her body out of a dorm room and college campus to his car without anyone seeing?

Well no cameras back then definitely made it possible.

I wonder How long after death do the smells of a dead body start leaking? Enough for the dogs to smell. Surely it takes a few hours or more.

Maybe he moved her the next night.

If Paul killed her ... how did he kill her?

My gut says that she got taken to his room and suddenly became self aware of what was happening ... she got a burst of energy and smacked him in the eye.

I would guess he probably choked her out.

And like the poster above think he probably dumped her out the window and took her somewhere.

I think she's probably buried in the yard and paved over.

Wow i just heard on episode 5 that Paul's attorney back in 1996 shortly after this happened tried to get the prosecutor to agree to let Paul plea guilty to involuntary manslaughter and do no more than 6 years and protection from civil suits in exchange for giving the location of Kristin's body.

It was retracted before anyone could react.

That's insane.No doubt in my mind that this guy did it. And he still walks free.

I cant believe the sheriffs dept had a press conference and admitted unless Paul decided to give information, the case would never be solved. Even if you thought that in your brain, why would you admit it publicly?
