F this virus. FoW and Adam were a big part of my music life. That Thing You Do is one of my favorite movies.

Best song the O-need-ers ever did. Or was it the O-Ned-ers?

Either way, RIP!

Had no idea he wrote "That Thing You Do".

One of the catchiest fake songs ever.

RIP.

that picture above is like peak 90's complete with someone having their eyes closed because you had to live with what was on the film roll.

I still say "ooo land for sale" when I see a for sale sign in a yard. Great song reference there!

That episode also has Billy Dee Williams as her godfather, and Turk's incredible reactions, refusing to call him but Lando.

Met him when he was promoting the first Fountains of Wayne album. Nice guy. He got a kick out of how excited I was to meet the guy who wrote That Thing You Do.

At a previous job, my wife worked with Adam's sister here in Austin. Her last name was Schlesinger, but never put two and two together because she was in TX and he was in NJ/NY. I'm into music and played guitar/bass in a band a LONG time ago and TTYD was our jokey anthem. We'd routinely watch TTYD after practicing/jamming.

One day my wife was talking to her co-worker about my band and that I played bass. The co-worker said her brother was in a band back East (NY/NJ) and also played bass. Very casual, no names discussed. My wife casually told me the story and I asked the co-worker's name. When she said Schlesinger, I said, ask her if her brother's name was Adam with FoW. The co-worker said yes and my wife told her about my obsession with FoW and TTYD. A few months later, after the co-worker had travelled back to NY/NJ for Tday, she brought my wife a personalized note from Adam to me on one of his daughter's Hello Kitty sticky note pads.

It was a really cool gift. Adam was a good dude.
