Just recently rewatched this with my 6 year old daughter and she loved it. After 25 years of not watching it and now revisiting a movie that was a staple of my childhood... it's a tough movie to follow as an adult. (My 7-11 year old self had a big time celebrity crush on the Childlike Empress, and that actress has not been in much sense, but her adult pics are pretty hot).

I think children's minds fill in the gaps and don't see the plot holes , and therefore are easily entertained by these stories - bad cuts and silly graphics and all.

BUT my real question is...

In your opinion, could The Neverending Story be a candidate for an excellent remake? I think so.

I know there was talk of Peter Jackson maybe wanting to do it in 2018, but that talk died out.

....

Fun fact - her teeth were fake in the movie.

An empress with missing teeth would have been pretty amusing.

Best part about that movie was the song throwback in Stranger Things:

I had a lady boner for her growing up as well. I knew pretty young that i liked boys AND girls. These two were both cute to me.

I have great memories of this movie that I'm sure viewing as a grown up would demolish. I haven't watched it since probably the early nineties, when I was 10 or 11. In my mind, it is still a phenomenal piece of storytelling akin to the Lord of the Rings.

Gmork wasn't the problem. He was just a servant, the herald of the The Nothing.

Could have switched their roles and nobody would have noticed.

Wouldn't mind seeing this remake. Loved it as a kid.

Also, why did she not have teeth? That's odd.

Because she was a kid with some holes in her smile. You know, kids lose teeth....

Oh. Yes.

I was wondering if it was because she was possibly British.

If you get the chance, read the book - still a great novel as an adult.

Loved the movie growing up. Tried watching this again a couple years ago, but noped out at the start of the swamp scene. Couldn't do it.

Showed it to the kids a couple of months ago. I forgot how early in the movie the swamp scene is.....

After they (we?) stoped crying uncontrollably, they loved the movie.

It holds up really well.

The Wolf with the glowing eyes (Gmork) ... always scared the **** out of me. Scared my daughter too, haha.

Also, we had this recorded off the TV with commercials and we wore that VHS out, so it was neat seeing the theatrical full version without the breaks.

Is this on any of the streaming services?

It's been years since I've seen it and wouldn't mind revisiting.

My son has been singing the song for weeks.

Before the schools shut down, they were singing that next week at the choir concert.

I found it on a free channel on ROKU with no commercials. If you search Neverending story (2020) the channel will pop up

Not to derail the thread, but I hated that.

It totally derailed the tension in the scene.

I think the subtle WTF expression on Will's face in the back of the car is my favorite shot of the entire series.
