I always tear up when they sing the French national anthem to drown out the Nazis.

That's about the only fight the French have ever won.

Best movie with the best single scene. I have posted it here a few times, the Le Marseilles scene is the best ever put to film.
The fates of all the main characters are set with almost no dialogue, the anthem sung in the actual middle of the war by a room with many actual war refugees wondering if they could ever go home. Those tears and emotions were real for many of them.
And the rendition itself is powerful.
So many movies, performances etc have this movie up their evolutionary tree.

Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?
Rick: It's not particularly my beloved Paris.
Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?
Rick: When you get there, ask me!
Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!
Strasser: How about New York?
Rick: Well, there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade.

It certainly has what I consider the best screenplay of all time. It's taught storytelling, and the dialogue itself is wonderful. It helps that such a great cast delivered the lines, too.

TCM is bringing it strong tonight: "Network", "Casablanca", and Welles's "The Magnificent Ambersons".
