I watched this last night for the first time ever and really knew nothing about it because I've never read the book or read up on the movie. Funny in a ludicrous way while being absolutely disturbing. The sheer anger and outrage over someone else's slightly different business card was lol funny. And the fact that he told the detective he was going to have lunch with Cliff Huxtable. Wut?

I guess it's up to the viewer to determine if everything we saw Patrick do actually happened or not. Seems to suggest it didn't. I was also struck by Bale's performance as someone going insane and couldn't help but draw that back to the fact that he played Batman whose main enemy is the most famous psychopath in the Joker. After watching this, Bale could have played a great Joker! He was awesome as usual.

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it, I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone; in fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis. My punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.
One of my favorite movie lines ever. The whole movie (and presumably book) supports this quote.

If you like watching Christian Bale go insane you should check out The Machinist.

i watched this with my dad about 12 years ago. his one comment on the movie was when christian bale was holding the nail gun up to chloe sevigny's head and he said "thats a nail gun but its not plugged in, or theres no hose".

After watching "the wire" i felt like a boss for having known there were powder actuated guns and he didnt.

The "album reviews" are even sillier in the book itself. IIRC, Bateman devotes entire chapters to Huey Lewis, Whitney Houston, and a couple others.

Book is much darker, but a good read.

I have always seen this movie as a dark comedy, and I love it.

Its a pretty simple commentary on the self centered nature of the yuppie culture of the Reagan era-80's
