James makes an appearance.

Hope he's doing well. Best hard rock band in the history of mankind. Prove me wrong.

Lars says an album may surface if this quarantine lasts a while.

Sabbath happened first, but they don't have remotely the staying power of Metallica.

Kirk with the horns down to kick things off.

The differences in where they're playing cracks me up. Looks like James was watching a YouTube video on lamp repair just before filming.

I dig this version of the song and would watch a whole concert of Metallica jamming while trying not to wake up the family.

It's crazy to me that Robert Trujillo is now the longest tenured bassist of Metallica. Newstead just seemed like he was in it a lot longer I guess since he was the bassist when I was a kid, but Trujillo has been with them 17 years now.

Yep, great band. I always wondered how such a hard rocking group could come from San Francisco, home of Grateful Dead, Journey, Sammy Hagar, and........ Metallica?

Newstead had 4 albums, an ep, a double album of covers, and a symphony album.

Trujillo has two albums. That's why it seems newstead has been in longer.

But yeh newstead is how I got into them.. just a few years after he joined so I always still picture 'them' as with him.

Man I miss newstead's backing vocals.

yeh it's all still CA though.

Even James had to get the hell out. He's now like 80 miles away from me, in Vail!

Only Lars is in CA right now. Kirk is probably in HI, not sure where rob is, but interview with Lars a few days ago he said they are in 4 different states, so rob is def. not in CA.

Asterisk on that one. I thought they were from Bay Area too since that's where they are based.

Wiki says "from LA but based in San Francisco most of their career.

I guess I'm a Californian since I was born in San Diego? But lived in Texas most my life?

This version of Blackened would sound really cool done by Godsmack like that acoustic album they had. It would be cool to have some of the harmonizing they do on some of the parts. I've never been a big Godsmack fan, but I really like that acoustic album.

I'm 100% certain Godsmack couldn't do an acoustic version of this song that is better than the version posted on the OP.

True, but he's a great live performer. Saw him for the 1st time in '91 with Suicidal Tendancies - intense.

Strongly disagree. As Lyle Lovett repeatedly tells us, "That's right you're not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway."

Yeah it's a good one. They lost me a little when they started talking about bee keeping lol.

Metallica definitely a top5 band ever for me. Same as others - was skeptical when Trujillo named bassist and it didn't seem that long ago ! But I think he's been pretty solid with ton of energy.

my first metallica show in '94 had suicidal open up for them.. with none other than Rob.

Then my high school band I was in opened up for suicidal in 1998!

Full circle for me.. I'm like 2 degrees away from opening for metallica.

My response was tongue and cheek a bit.. I'm a die hard metallica fan of ~30 years now, I'm very familiar with their beginnings.

They are definitely 'from' san fran.. but they did not 'come from' san fran as you put it. They def. 'came from' LA..

It was a real shame Alice in Chains quit the tour to be replaced by Rob Halford. Did Metallica play the opening riff of "man in the box" with newstead imitating the AiC vocals at your show, too?

I know, I was a die hard fan of AIC at that time.. and it ended up being my only chance at seeing them with Layne so I was totally bummed they pulled out.

Yeh James did that man in box thing.. I always looked back on that and kinda didn't like him for it.. literally the only thing he's said or done that I can say that about, because he's def. not your typical left wing nut musician and seems to be a pretty genuine, heartfelt guy.

But you look at him now, cancelling world tours and american festivals because he's in rehab. I wonder if he remembers saying that about Layne and regrets it.

It was newstead, not hetfield at my show.

And poor poor candlebox did not belong on that bill.
