Hearing a lot of great things about this one. All eight episodes drop this Friday, the first two of which are directed by Damien Chazelle - writer/director of Whiplash, La La Land, and First Man - which is reason enough to watch...

Ooof. While this isn't a bad show by any means, the drama surrounding a French jazz club just isn't my thing. I lasted halfway through the pilot and had to eject. That's not to say some won't find it appealing. Again, it's from Damien Chazelle, so it's well done at the very least. But I'm starting to worry that his obsession with jazz, while at once his greatest triumph (Whiplash), is also his kryptonite (this, and the most annoying parts of La La Land, which I loved for the most part). I don't fault him for being so passionate about something, but man, no matter how cool and interesting he thinks jazz is, I'm afraid that I, nor a large portion of the audience, give a sh/t to the degree necessary to warrant him continuing to going to this well over and over and over. At this point it's starting to feel like every one of his projects is basically Chad the nanny from Jerry Maguire...
