Holy sh*t, this podcast. Legitimately one of the saddest things I've ever heard.
For those who don't know, Maron's partner, Lynn Shelton, was a highly revered indie writer/director who died unexpectedly from a undiagnosed blood disorder Saturday morning at the age of 54. One of my favorite movies of hers is Your Sister's Sister, but she also directed episodes of some of my favorite shows, including Mad Men, Master of None, New Girl, Love, and Glow, among many others.
Maron's reaction to her death is only the first eight minutes of the podcast, but I don't think I've ever heard a celebrity be so raw like this so publicly and immediately after a loved one's death. It's admirable in a way, and you can tell, as someone who talks to people for a living, almost as therapy, that this is simply his way of tying to cope.
Ultimately, it serves as an intro to Maron's first podcast with Shelton from 2015 - the first time they met - and the transition is so incredibly jarring and heartbreaking, like an edit out of a movie or something.
I can't imagine what he's going through right now...
