I haven't listened to them since around 2010ish. Not that I was trying to avoid them or anything, just lost interest. They were good in that time period though.

Have some decent songs, but also a lot of meh.

Simple man cover, 45 and diamond eyes all pretty good.

I can only assume neither of you have ever heard Smashing Pumpkins cover of "Landslide"?
It is simultaneously the most god awful yet comical thing ever recorded.

Lol, those aren't even close the being the worst. Try Sheryl Crow's Sweet Child o Mine or Limp Bizkit's Behind Blue Eyes.

I still like Shinedown. The Sound of Madness is one of my favorite albums. But, not being a diligent music fan, I haven't sat down to listen to their recent albums to check if they are still good.

If I'm being honest my first thought was "less successful Nickelback". And I'm not a Nickelback hater, I think they are fine, they are just a band where i can't imagine someone being a big fan of specifically. The words "Shinedown is my favorite band" is something i can't picture anyone saying. Shinedown runs in that same inoffensive mediocre rock as Nickelback that is good enough for alt rock radio and the dentists office. Yet they aren't popular enough for people to actively hate like they do Nickelback.

Shinedown is one of those bands that I've heard a bunch of their songs on the radio but I've never gone and listened to an actual album of theirs. I went to their top songs and only recognized Second Chance but played a little bit of their top five and each one I was like "oh yeah that song, I've heard this". But even having heard 45 probably a dozen times I've never once even been curious what the name of that song was or what band it was by.

If they were going to open for an alt rock band I want to see I'd show up early enough to see them. If they were at a rock festival and they weren't playing against someone better i'd watch their set. But I couldn't imagine buying a ticket to a show where Shinedown was the headliner or buying their album. I blows my mind that they are a legit stadium rock band and were going to go on a tour where Bush was opening for them.

But what do I think of most when I think of Shinedown? My man, I don't think of them at all.

Pretty spot on.

In the 2010's I couldn't really differentiate them from the band Seether. I think Seether might be.. heavier? I don't know. It's just generic rock with no special qualities. If they tried to be more aggressive, they would be Saliva. If they went softer, they would be The Calling.

My brother gave me tix to Uproar festival back in 2012. The main acts were Staind, Godsmack, and Shinedown with the later being the closing act. The inner junior high kid in me got a kick in seeing Staind and Godsmack. I wasnt very familiar with Shinedown but I did recognize the radio songs. It was ok. Nothing noteworthy. That pretty much describes all of the generic rock that the radio industry seemed to latch onto in the early 2010s rather than checking out the alt/indie rock that was growing in popularity at the time. My wife and I wound up leaving a few songs into the set because we were just done at that point. I couldnt help but think of the mental image of Rod Ryan just jamming out to that lineup all day long though like it was the greatest concert of all time.

I like a few of their songs but never seen them and do not intend to. Their newest stuff is bad IMO.

I don't think I know any of their songs that isn't on the Sound of Madness album. They actually kinda remind me of the 90s band Tonic where most people know them from 2-3 songs that all came from one album.

Only thing i have to add is that my first concert was No Address, Theory of a Deadman, and Shinedown at the old Meridian Nightclub in downtown Houston. I think it was around 05/06 timeframe. Went to see Shinedown and had never heard of the other two. Grungy venue and the sound was terrible. Theory of a Deadman was kickarse though and i've been a fan ever since.

Welp. I think we're done here
