Arguably the greatest movie in history. Certainly, most impactful regarding the 'summer blockbuster' phenomenon.

This movie scared me so bad I couldn't go in the ocean as a kid. Hell I was scared of the lake

I wouldn't walk over manhole covers for fear Jaws got into the sewer system.

Definitely a top 5 for me. Never gets old and will watch from wherever I catch it flipping channels. And since it's pretty tame by today's standards I live watching it with my kids.

Just realized it looks like he's wearing an eye patch. Coincidence?

My favorite movie of all time. My username comes from the shark, not the awful Jim Carrey movie. My son's middle name is also Bruce.

The architect's arm getting cut off and the close up of the blood in Star Wars was put in to keep it from getting a G rating

Side bar: I've watched quite a few older movies lately and it's interesting the amount of casual nudity you used to see in movies regardless of the rating.

I rarely see nudity in movies now and damn sure not in PG or even PG-13 movies. Violence has ratcheted way up while nudity has ratcheted down. I watch few B movies so may not apply there.

I showed Jaws to my 11 year old granddaughter about three weeks ago. She got scared, but loved it.

She wants to watch it whenever she comes over for a movie.

She watched it at home by herself this week. She loves it.

I talked her into watching the original The Taking of Pelham 123 (which she enjoyed) by telling her that the shark hunter guy from Jaws was in it.

Growing up in Lake Jackson, I spent a whole lot of time at Surfside Beach prior to seeing Jaws. After, I think I went to the beach twice, and one of those times was Stewart Beach in Galveston.

Jaws remains one of the greatest movies ever made. Everyone knows about the music. The cast is perfect. The shark is mostly terrifying, except for the moment when it jumps out of the water onto the rear of the Orca - that scene just never looked that great to me, but it did nothing to ruin the overall terror of the entire movie.

One of the best dialogue driven scenes ever put to film:

I believe this is the first time we really got to see the shark as it swam up on the guy that had fallen out of his boat:

This scene is regularly referenced in memes 45 years later, and we get to see just how big the shark is:

The movie ends up with an exciting finish:

Lastly, the movie gave rise to one of the biggest laughs I ever had in a theater, when the opening sequence of Jaws, as terrifying as it was, was recreated by Steven Spielberg for his movie 1941, which came out 4 years after Jaws:

I want to say this is even the same actress from Jaws.

Though it is primarily about Star Wars, Jaws is featured fairly prominently in the podcast Blockbuster. I highly recommend it.

This might be the film I've seen more than any other. In the early 80's, we owned a VHS copy of it recorded from my uncle's laserdiscs. Even today, every time I watch it my brain expects the old kaleidoscope visual and music which marked the breaks when the giant laserdiscs would be flipped to start the next chapter.

Still remember the first time I saw the film on DVD, which revealed how much of the movie I'd been missing all those years watching it on a fuzzy pan & scan version. Man, I love this movie and seeing it today in giant hi-def. It is one of the world's few perfect films.

I'm sure many of you know, but they finally found the USS Indianapolis wreck almost 3 years ago. One of the last I discovered American wrecks.

I guess the story was out at the time of hat it had originally been rated R. My parents and my friends parents wouldn't let us see it at first. They went to see it and then decided it would be okay for us.

I was 9, my friend 8, and my brother 7. Different times I guess.

Quint & Hooper look down on Brodie for his lack of knowledge of the sea.
Brodie & Hooper look down on Quint for his crudeness.
Quint & Brodie look down on Hooper for his college education & wealth.

The interplay between these three characters (portrayed by great actors) is just amazing.

PG-13 did not exist until 1984, when parents complained about Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom being to dark and violent for a PG Rating

It was that movie and Gremlins that jump started the PG 13 rating. I think they came out the same year?

I know. I saw the first PG-13 movie ever released in theaters: Red Dawn.
