One of the greatest scenes set to one of the greatest scores ever filmed.
Sergio Leone's "Spaghetti" Westerns would not be nearly as good without Morricone's scores

Oh man, this is a huge loss! He also did the Untouchables which is my favorite of his.
One of my favorites as well. Up there with Hans Zimmer and John Williams. Zimmer even said that Morricone's score for Once Upon a Time in the West inspired him to be a film composer. I think film scores today wouldn't be nearly what they are today without his work. Truly one of the greats.
One of my favorite works of Ennio Morricone's was The Thing. Not so much for the listenability of the score (I had the LP when I was in high school and my mom once thought it made my room sound like she was knocking on the door to a mausoleum), but for the mood it helped to create in John Carpenter's awesome monster movie.

Love that one too. Just know that Tarantino lifted it from Il Mercenario (The Mercenary)(1968).

One of the reasons I enjoy many Tarantino films so much is his repurposing of old Morricone compositions as well as inclusion of new ones -
Me too. I also spent quite a bit of time finding and watching these Spaghetti Western movies I hadn't heard of until I looked into where the music came from.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly is the only movie soundtrack I've bought in multiple formats.
I was introduced to his work in The Man with No Name Trilogy.
Gabriel's Oboe is hauntingly beautiful, and quite possibly his best work. If you have not listened to Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone, I cannot recommend it enough.

He created the greatest concert intro track of all time!
was just about to post.. no band has more of a tie to their intro as Metallica does with Ecstasy of Gold. They've used it as intro music since 1983.Max Power said:

This is the only time they've played it themselves. Usually prerecroded, or live by symphony at those shows.
