I went to my first post-Corona flick last weekend. For $7, I'm pleased with how much I enjoyed Ghostbusters on the big screen for the first time in 3 1/2 decades. Since it was so cheap and my only movie experience in 2020, I splurged on a little more popcorn and drink than I normally would.

I've seen it a few times over the years, so there weren't many new revelations, but it was totally enjoyable. I did notice a positive comment about Jesus Christ in the movie. That was probably not a big deal in 1984, but the reaction today would be different. They were taking some pretty big liberties with possession and the afterlife, so they may have included that as a hedge.

Id argue its the perfect movie

Cast, Writing, Story are all perfect. Its combination of real comedy and real drama is like no other. The music and soundtrack are amazing.

Nearly every line is quotable. Its hard to choose my favorite but its safe to say I quote Ghostbusters almost every day.

"Listen...do you smell something" may be the most underrated.

The only thing that could have made it better would have been replacing the cast with completely unfunny female SNL cast members.

The movie IS legitimately creepy at times.. which is not easy to pull off for a comedy. The scene where they are in jail and Egon explains how the apartment building was designed to summon Gozer by a maniac cult leader architect.. there's a crazy unsettling vibe in the air every time I watch it. Couple that with the spiral effect of all the events leading up to it getting stranger and stranger.

I really hope the movie currently in production can capture some of that creepiness and unsettling feeling.

I love Ghostbusters. We've watched it with the kids and they got to see it in the theater a couple months ago.

Ghostbusters...whadaya want!!

Santikos Palladium has been playing the 80s greats during the pandemic and I am loving it. My kids, 11 and 9, always complain when I try to get them to watch the classics and they would complain like I did when my dad would make me watch Elvis movies or old Westerns. We dont tell them they are old movies from the 80s and they think they are mew releases. So far they have loved The Goonies, ET, and Jaws. My kids were in tears when ET died.

I never actually read the newspaper pages they put on the screen beyond the headline. Just noticed one was from the Atlantic about "the politics of the next dimension: do ghosts have civil rights?".

Damnit, original ghostbusters went woke way before the female version.

The summer of 1984 was such a special summer for me.

I remember having to choose between seeing Ghostbusters or this little Steve Spielberg-produced film entitled "Gremlins" on opening weekend. I chose Ghostbusters. I ended up seeing it twice that week.

Later that summer visiting relatives up north, my mother took me to this little theater to finally see "Gremlins." Before the movie started, I went to the restroom and on the way back to my theater, I decided to sneak into another theater for a minute. It was showing "Purple Rain" and it was just starting. The first thing I heard were the opening words "Dearly beloved....we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.....:

I was mesmerized. I had to stand there and watch that entire song before going back to see Gremlins.

Those three films hold a special place in my memories.....
