Hard to believe it's been 30 years since SRV died in that helicopter crash. I consider myself fortunate in the fact that I was able to see SRV perform live 7 or 8 times, including a show at the Mann Music Center in Philly 2 months before his death. I also saw him live once on 6h street in Austin just jamming out on an acoustic guitar sitting on a barstool outside one of the bars. He was the Greatest guitarist I ever saw live. Only Jimi did it better.

I remember so vividly - I was a Sophomore in HS, and I showed up for two-a-days in the morning, and one of my friends asked me if I heard that SRV died in a helicopter crash.

Still miss SRV.



This tragedy could have been even worse. Robert Cray and Eric Clapton were playing the same concert, but they both decided not to get on the same helicopter.

Missing SRV live is one of my biggest musical regrets in life. I had just started getting into him when he died.

Couldn't scrape enough money together to see Nirvana in Houston in December 93. That's my other biggest regret.

I saw SRV at a show in downtown Houston....after the encore he came out and sat by himself, feet dangling over the edge of the stage and played solo. That part was just awesome

Saw him when I was 6yo at the Bronco Bowl '83. Just remember how loud it was and the smoke cloud hovering over the audience

Buddy Guy, too. It was billed as "Eric Clapton and Friends" if I remember correctly. SRV hopped on a helicopter because the traffic was backed up and he was expecting a call from his girlfriend in Australia.

I'm guessing not many people outside of hardcore Austin blues/live music fans could say that.

I was in middle school and remember the crash being a big news story, but not sure if I really knew who he was before that. Had probably seen him in a Don't Mess With Texas commercial.

He had just did the album with his brother and was getting sober. My we wife told me about the accident, probably hit harder than it should have, but man what a loss

Thanks for the link.

It doesn't make it any less painful but it helps in understanding "How?" it happened.
