Johnny Depp officially exits Fantastic Beasts 3, the upcoming entry in Warner Bros' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie franchise. The actor was a late announced addition to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them cast just prior to the movie's theatrical release in 2016, hinting at a surprise role. Once the movie premiered, it was revealed that Depp would play Gellert Grindelwald, the dark wizard who plagued the Wizarding World prior to the rise of Harry Potter's main antagonist Voldemort. At the end of Fantastic Beasts, Colin Farrell's Percival Graves was revealed to be Grindelwald in disguise.

On Instagram, Depp released a statement revealing he had been "asked to resign by Warner Bros." from the role of Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts movies, including the upcoming as-yet-untitled Fantastic Beasts 3. Warner Bros. released a statement as well, per IndieWire, reading, "Johnny Depp will depart the Fantastic Beasts franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022." See Depp's full statement below.

I blame Amber Heard

Are the court rulings of him beating her regularly all wrong?

This means we're getting Jared Leto, doesn't it...

I am not convinced he beat her.
I do believe he did react towards her violence by pushing her away from him

I mean she cut off part of his finger when she smashed a bottle on it. Then claimed that was the result of a three day beating. Except the body guard who took Depp to the hospital said there were no injuries to her.

Johnny Depp is a drunk. No doubt.
Often an out there fool.

All his other exes', including the one he left her for, have stated he never did things like that. He was kind to everyone

This would make a fascinating movie

Holy cow!

You may be correct.

How many cast members is he going to send bags of poop to?

Maybe.

He may be weird, but stories are she is a complete psycho. Interesting that there have been no other reports of abuse from him.

Warner Bros botched things when they didn't recast Grindlewald after the first movie. Depp was only there for one scene after being "disguised" all movie. Could've played off Depps appearance as another disguise and let a new actor portray Grindlewald going forward.

I really hated that twist at the end of the first one. The whole "albinos are evil" plus "look, he has heterochromia... so you know he's sus!" thing just seemed like they were trying wayyyyyyyy to hard.

I liked Farrell in that role, and I'm sad they wasted him on being a disguise

Those movies suck so I don't really care. I am a Potter diehard and I've still never been able to watch either one of them all the way through.

They aren't good, but I do enjoy Newt's character.

It was so much better with Colin Farrell in the role

The Beast movies are definitely flawed, but I think Jude Law has been the best Dumbledore on film. I'd watch any sequel/spin-off where he plays Dumbledore.

Really loved him in "Enormous Beasts and Where to Find Them"! Hope he gets his life in order and can return for in time for the 9th movie!

Only decent thing about the Fantastic Beasts movies has been Jude Law as Dumbledore. The guy who plays Newt seems to act in the same way he does in every movie. I find him annoying.

The movies are bad and the story arc they are taking is atrocious.

Loved the books growing up and enjoyed a few of the movies (1,2,3,and 5 were decent). Such a pity they fail so much with this world. Yeah, it's a soft magic world, so I tend to not be as invested anymore as i am with so many great fantasy series and authors, but there is always a certain charm to the Harry Potter world.

I am a Potterhead but yeah the beasts movies are ok at best. The second ones plot was all over the place.

I never liked Depp in the role. He was too famous for me. Kind of overshadowed the movie.

Fantastic beasts aren't any better or worse than the HP movies... they all have glaring problems you just choose to ignore because you love the world.

As someone that never cared for HP, and really didn't like such a cool universe completely dependent on a bunch of kids, I really liked the first Fantastic Beasts. Just featuring adults instead of kids gave the universe a seriousness and weight none of the rest of the movies ever had. That said, I got about 20 mins through FB2 and fell asleep. It was just.. not good.
